Anybody else looking forward to Tomb Raider coming out in March next year?

I already have my pre-order down, I for one cannot wait for this one to be released. The trailer looks excellent and the story seems a bit more brutal and rugged and really taking Lara back to her roots!

I am but i just hope they are not expecting me to pay out £40+ for a 12 - 15 hour game!!

Seriously while I don't advocate just adding on a MP for the hell of it I'm also getting annoyed at paying full whack for something that honestly isn't going to last more than a heavy weekend of playing

That's very true. Still, it may suprise us and we may get a good value for money game. Been waiting very long for a game like this to come along. The last one I can remember is Uncharted which I absolutely loved until my PS3 broke down. Haven't even played the sequels to it.

Really looking forward to this. Love all the other tomb raiders and looking forward to a change.
With the game running time, you could buy it for full wack, finish it in a weekend (providing they've done away with collectibles and all that stuff which I personally like doing), and then sell it off for nearly full price. That's what I did with LA noire because there was nothing to do after the story and collectibles.

No. It's a disgrace to the Tomb Raider IP. I'm glad the original games have been released on Steam and GOG so more people can see what a travesty this new TR is.

I know what you mean i never played a megadrive sonic game because they lasted an hour or two, i also avoided resident evil games on PS1 cause they were a few hours

Hang on a sec i did buy them and they cost £40 as well so i don't see how your complaint is relevant when games have always been £40 and some have always been short

In terms of the game its looks fantastic and i've been looking forward to it since the first reveal at E3, i just hope it's like uncharted in terms of scale and set pieces

Not sure. It looks too dark with no colour, will age the game very quickly if the gameplay is linear as well. Too much emphasis in Lara and not what made TR enjoyable back in the 90's. I would rather have the original formula and a cartoon stereotype super human badass Lara instead. It's more fun and challenging. Ironically, this game will appeal more to kids and girls rather than the broad fan base of the classics. This is why this game will fail, it may sell well and have good reviews but will be forgotten about a few weeks after release.

It's one of the few franchises I'll actually buy a console for - that and GTA & Gears of War. Not overly impressed with how short the game appears to be though but we'll see.

I'm really looking forward to it. Having played all the Tomb Raider games over the years, it will be nice to see a bit of a revamp. However I am a little tired of altering her background story every time. Her past needs to stay more rigid. The visuals look amazing. I do hope it's not to rigid in exploration. I want to be able to explore and find secrets.

On a side note I really wish they would remake Tomb Raider 2. I would love an updated game with better graphics. I loved the Opera House level! I want to see that again in HD

I have more of an open mind on the new Tomb Raider than you, but I do fear that what they're doing is what CAPCOM did to RE6... balls it up :(

I'm definitely a traditionalist when it comes to Tomb Raider, so I'm hoping for the best.

The Casino Royale of Tomb Raider, then?

While it could be an excellent game in itself, to establish the Lara Croft character, it's where it goes next what counts?

I have no doubt they'll be doing that to TR. Albeit, these classic games that are being built upon are (for us who remember the originals!) not as how we remember them, but my God, Capcom couldn't have gone in a more opposite direction if they tried.

Capcom started going backwards with RE4. It's been a progressive downhill slope ever since.

Tomb Raider though needs a boost. Underworld was half decent, but the next best one before that was Tomb Raider 2. Games like Anniversary and Legend weren't bad per se, but not a patch on the classics.

And since those games came out, Uncharted has leapfrogged Tomb Raider by a sizable distance as top choice for archaeological action adventure.

I really am more interested in the game after this one.

Because at the end of the day, it's both a 'reboot' and a 'origins story.' Contrary to the title, I don't expect to be raiding many dinosaur-infested tombs. Once we're 'back' and we have the Lara Croft we know and love - we can go forward from there and back to more familiar ground.

    I hope.

But that doesn't mean I'm going to slate this game over and over before I've even played it. That's a really, really stupid move.

Well put it this way, I am hopeful with this new reboot, although I have been disappointed in all of Crystal Dynamics 'Tomb Raider' games in the past as they never seemed to have that 'Tomb Raider' experience that we once loved from Core Design. Ah bliss, those were the days when you did some real Tomb Raiding and could spend time playing a whole game months down the line, get your moneys worth and even want to play it again and again.

I wonder if there will be any multiplayer with this new one?

    Why would you want multiplayer?

Surely this is spoiling the dynamics of the game even more!

Not necessarily but I guess mulitplayer will only suit a certain type of player. It has to be done right though for it to work.

It took them this long to copy Uncharted's gameplay and narrative style?

Ignore me. I'm still bitter at how Eidos shafted Core Design, by handing over Tomb Raider to Crystal Dynamics. It was the right thing to do, as having worked at Core during TR:Angel Of Darkness, there was no way the studio was up to the task of making a GOOD Tomb Raider game; at least not in the way it was being run at the time.
