What's the point of 5L and Talksport broadcasting the same game?
a little thing called choice for the listener perhaps?
given that both stations are covering the games chosen by tv, what difference would you have wanted to see? the only time i would agree is if broadcasting a game that is already on another radio station means another equaly important event misses out. as there are no other games in these timeslots though that isn't an issue hear. both stations have the rights so will obviously use them. I do get frustrated sometimes though when 5live and TS broadcast the same champions league games and other british clubs miss out on national radio commentary.
It'll be John Hardy and Waynne Phillips for the 'Welsh' derby and Newport County and Wrexham for BBC Radio Cymru tonight. Rob Phillips is down to do Cardiff City's (1899-2012 RIP) FA Cup match at Macclesfield tomorrow, so I'll guess, as commentators sometimes stay overnight beforehand at games, Mark Poyser will do the match for Radio Wales.
I'll be at the match, so will post details afterwards.
1 out of 3 isn't bad then.

Mike Taylor and Mark Regan: Walsall v Portsmouth
It will most likely be Mark Regan who will present the show
To confirm, Mike Taylor was their match commentator while Mark Regan co-commentated and presented WM Sport from the Banks's Stadium. Additionally, hot off a guest appearance on Sky Sports News, Walsall goalkeeping coach and community officer Mick Kearns provided analysis at half-time and full-time. Kearnsy was primarily co-commentating for the Walsall FC official website's Saddlers Player which, since Steve Hermon became a regular on Free Radio 80s' The Goalzone, he does alongside talkSPORT Extra Time producer Will Gavin.
Out of interest, how many games have BBC WM gone into in their up-to-ten-games-per-season commentary contract with the Saddlers? So far I know they have done commentary on the home game with MK Dons during the first international break of the season, the two live Sky Sports TV games (Shrewsbury Town away during the second international break and Portsmouth at home tonight), the midweek FA Cup First Round Replay against Lincoln City and their midweek league game at Tranmere Rovers. They'll be doing commentary on the Preston North End v Walsall game moved due to PNE's JPT commitments next Sunday, which takes them up to six commentaries (I don't think their coverage of the West Bromwich Albion friendly counts as part of this agreement). Have I missed any other live Walsall games?

As for where the trio of Matchday Exclusive regulars are today: Adrian Durham has yet to recover from losing his voice (although is at London Road as a Posh fan), Sam Matterface is commentating on Southampton v Chelsea for ITV1's highlights tonight and Stan Collymore is on holiday (no idea why he'd pick FA Cup Third Round weekend to take a break, but there you go). I think it's the first time we've heard Alex Crook, a mainstay of talkSPORT Live's Premier League coverage, on talkSPORT UK. Good to hear that Dave Rowe has been sent to Tottenham v Coventry today. Great to have the FA Cup back on talkSPORT, their coverage has sounded really strong so far.

For those interested in how talkSPORT Live covered the 3pm kick-offs, the short answer is they didn't. From checking Radio Sport New Zealand's Week on Demand, between 2.30-5pm they just took talkSPORT UK's Matchday Live with Ian Danter and co. As far as I know they didn't provide any 3pm commentaries, at the end of the early game David Oates just signed off and while there are match stats pages on talkSPORT.com none of these seem to have the usual commentary streams attached to them.
As for Matchday Live today, it was talkSPORT's usual Around the Grounds fare with no stop-offs at any of the featured games for spells of commentary. Dants seemed to be more focused on running down all of the scores as is the presenter's normal role than he was on updating his own game and thus did a very good job. I guess the original plan would have been to have Adrian Durham presenting from Peterborough United v Norwich City with Kev Lawrence reporting alongside him and Dants simply being their reporter at Crystal Palace v Stoke City prior to Adrian losing his voice. Interesting to hear that talkSPORT Live's regular Saturday 5.30pm co-commentator Paul Mortimer was on BBC London today, is this the first time he has worked for that station?
