I know he isn't very popular but I did prefer Jame's Arthur's version of Impossible to Shontelle's.

I prefer the Spanish version of I Will Survive (Yo Vivere) by Celia Cruz to the Gloria Gaynor versions.

This video clip is taken from a tribute to Celia, which was recorded not long before she died, & features many Latin American music stars.

I like the way the band plays (& features a short trumpet solo by Arturo Sandoval at the end), & how it seems to spur the singers on, & how everyone involved seems to be having a good time.

Celia starts singing 1 minute into the clip.

    (All IMO obviously)

I like Simply Red's versions of If you don't know me by now and You make me feel brand new, both are alternative versions of soul classics

Pink's Try is technically a cover, and it's better than the original.

Santana - She's Not There (Carlos's OTT solo always inspires massive air guitar heorics)
Jimi Hendrix - All Along The Watchtower (Dylan himself started performing it in Hendrix's arrangement.)
Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Alexandra Burke? F*** right off.)
    Kate Bush - Rocket Man

I completely agree. It suited his tone voice as well.

    Gloria by the Doors

The original by Them is also excellent but I do (just) prefer Jim doing it live

(put this in the classic rock thread as well

A lot of Elvis songs. Shake rattle and roll and Fever being a couple that stand out.
Birdy's version of the A-Team is better than Ed Sheeran's as well imo.

Personally, I think they are bland and dull and rip the heart and soul out of the originals but each to their own.

I'll have to come out and say that I prefer Mariah Carey's version of Without You to the others. I'm not a fan of Harry Nilsson's voice at all. While we're on the subject of him, The Beautiful South's version of Everybody's Talkin' is far better in my opinion.

I'm not keen on Whitney Houston's version of I Will Always Love You, but much better than Dolly's.

Freak Like Me - Sugababes, but the original is also cool.

Lady Marmalade - Xtina, Pink, Mya, Lil' Kim, Missy Elliott (I think that's everyone)

If You Ever - East 17 and Gabrielle

The Ramones - Baby I Love You
    Faith No More - Easy
Foo Fighters - Band on the Run
    Johnny Cash - Hurt
    Natalie Imbruglia - Torn

Does Nillson have any songs apart from Without You and Everybody's Talkin?

    Jealous Guy - Roxy Music
Like it more than John Lennon's version

    Oh, me too!

Love WILD IS THE WIND - David Bowie

Have always preferred it to Nina Simone's, although I do like hers

Edit: Oops, Rocketpop beat me on that many pages ago

There's the Lime In The Coconut song (not sure if that's the title) that plays at the end of 'Reservoir Dogs' :D

Having listened to both versions of You Make Me Feel Brand New together, I must conclude that Mick Hucknall's vocal's don't suit the song as well as the falsetto dude from the Stylistics
