West End Girls - Pet Shop Boys
Thanks to the strip club in GTA V, I've just discovered this song for the first time;

Can't believe I've never heard this 80's classic before now:o
It sounds rather timeless. I see Madonna even sampled the synth hook for her song "Jump":)

I was the same with 'I Ran' by A Flock of Seagulls.
How I missed it the first time around I'll never know.
and I'm someone who loves my 80's music:o:o
I wonder what other classics I haven't heard yet?!:D
I Ran?
What about 'Under the Milky Way' by The Church?
Both songs I missed out on in the 80s
For some reason that did better in the US than in the UK. Hit #2 in the US, #90 in the UK.
There were a bunch of those. Here are a few 80s hits by English bands that did better in the US than in the UK:
Cutting Crew - Died in Your Arms (US #1, UK #4)
General Public - Tenderness (US #27, UK #95)
Talk Talk - It's My Life (US #31, UK #46)
and a few german/austrian hits:
Peter Schilling - Major Tom (US #14, UK #42)
Falco - Der Kommissar (US #5, UK #47)
Nena - 99 Luftballons (US #2. German version didn't chart in the UK).
I'm not sure why I only found the song after hearing it in the film 'Donnie Darko'.
I either didn't hear it in the 80s or heard it once or twice and for some reason dismissed it.
But as soon as I heard it in the film I loved it.
Blue Monday - New Order
Vienna - Ultravox
19 - Paul Hardcastle
Golden Brown - The Stranglers
Couple of less obvious ones, but classics nonetheless (IMO):
Hey Matthew - Karel Fialka
Camouflage - Stan Ridgeway
Yes its an amazing song certainly a classic.
I love pet shop boys one of my fave ever bands
She certainly did, Jump is one of my fave songs off Confessions, the other being Forbidden Love.
Yes, they did and Neil and Chris didn't like it, as far as I know
They asked Chris about it in an interview and he said he liked the acapella version !!!
Great tune
they had some massive hits - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pet_Shop_Boys_discography
OPPORTUNITIES and SUBURBIA are also big favs of mine
No it wasnt. Xmas 1985 the number 1 was Shakin Stevens.
They were xmas number 1 in 1987 with a different song
Check out the follow up, (once you get past the annoying advert), which was also rather good, but doesn't get played nearly as much.
