Sorry if you already know but I just found out that saw 8 movie is in the works as it was announced on November 5, 2013.

This is brilliant news as I love saw films :)

Saw 8  I hadn't realised there was even a Saw 7 or 6. Talk about milking a franchise dry.

What's the betting on the poster the 8 will be made of two blood-flecked circular saws?

good news. Very profitable series so the audience clearly still love it. The only one to get below $100m Worldwde is Saw 6 which got about $65m. all the others got upwards of $100m Worldwide and the studios spend $60m making them, so even the worst performing Saw movie still made $6m more than the total spend producing. You can't go wrong with that.
    Dead chuffed with that.

wow, i would prefer if this was a completly new story because let's face it - it got pretty stale as it went on.

I still only enjoyed the first film really. The second tried something different (it wasn't a saw film to begin with) but the rest... meh. Still, i saw every one in the cinema so they must have done something right...

Stop... just stop. The main guy has been dead since the 3rd one for crying out loud.

I doubt they will continue the Hoffman story - it has nowhere to go, it ran out of steam long before the end of the last Saw film. I'm sure they'll have a nod to it but it won't be the main plot.

I like the series up until Saw 4. I like how each film went back and revisited scenes from early films and added new perspectives. It's famous for gore, but is really more about the psychology and twisted plots. The last three films should have been condensed into two, really. The longer it goes on, the more implausible it gets. It's a shame. Despite being a fan, I don't have much desire to see another one, unless they somehow come up with a good new concept.

Indeed. I'll be glad when this unpleasant torture porn franchise finally ends.

I have seen only the first one. Are all sequels worth watching? I'm willing to do a Saw marathon one day if they are.

2nd one is worth a watch i guess. Decent enough popcorn entertainment. After that it starts getting more and more ridiculous. The guy dies at the end of the 3rd one and continues to execute his plans after death, through his apprentices and what not. Thankfully i don't even remember most of the 4th, and never bothered watching it from the 5th onwards.

I bet this is a prequel. One of the problems with the movies from 4 onwards is the antagonist, best actor and one of the best movie characters of recent years was becoming an after thought. He only had one cameo in the Final Chapter! Like having an Elm Street without Freddy.

The SAW universe suggests the 'murders' started long before the first film. A prequel allows it to have Jigsaw as a main character again. Furthermore, it's a clever way of bringing it back while at the same time maintaining number 7 was the last one. Personally I hope they cut down on the gore and make a psychological horror/thriller like the original.

The second one is probably the best one for me - better than the first one.

But the rest were horrible. Really stretching a franchise beyond all realms of common sense.

But then the Fast and Furious franchise basically rebooted itself halfway through and those films are still successful, so if they go down that route here and announce that it's basically starting all over again, they could potentially keep it going into double figures.

I might watch Part 8 since i've seen all of the others, but probably since part 3, I've only really watched them out of a sense of "well i've seen the others.."

I think they have come to an end with the Saw series. I enjoyed the first two, then it just became the same thing recycled for several more series. It became boring. I doubt this eighth one will be any juicier.

I don't want a reboot. Saying that, I'm really not sure where they can go following the ending of Saw 7. I'd like a better explanation to why a certain character turned out to be in on it the whole time. At least that gives Jigsaw a reason to be in it!

But yeah... I'm really not sure about this. Saw 7 was not very good, but it's last 5 minutes are brilliant imo, and nicely tie everything together, feeling like a proper ending.

If you liked the first one then you will like the rest. The second one is my favourite one and i could watch it over and over again. The rest are all entertainment and enjoyable.

I wouldn't say that's a correct assumption at all. The first one is a genuinely interesting thriller with a fair amount of restraint, the sequels are a bunch of increasingly convoluted torture-p0rn films.
