Do you hate when legends end up on reality TV?

Latoya and Jermain Jackson, Corey Feldman, Verne Troyer. Just a few of my favourites who I thought highly of until they went on Big Brother and other shows. Don't get me wrong, still love them but I think they loose there legendary status when doing this, gives people the impression they're skint.

What're your thoughts? Do you feel like they loose credibility for taking part? Even if they come across good?

I see what you mean. Like they are lowering their standards sort of thing.
Actually I think many of them are just bored. They've done all the usual things.....the book/films/interviews in print & on telly. They might see it as a challenge . I like seeing them sans make-up,getting dirty & trying to fathom the Brits. Even better when they think they are slipping out to a 5* hotel each night.

What about 70's & 80's 'popular' Tv actors now in soaps? Nigel Havers & Patrick Mower spring to mind.

Perhaps, at a push Corey Feldman could be considered a legend, perhaps, the other are not legends at all.

She's not considered a legend as such but I found Jan Leeming to be irritating as hell when she was in the jungle......
    Cannot abide needy-weepy-girly-women like her.

La Toya and Jermaine Jackson? Hasn't appearing on reality tv improved their reputation? Isn't it a step up?

I mean La Toya was the most hated Jackson of them all who was one beating from her husband away from hardcore porn. She did reality tv and is now probably the most likable of all the clan. Slightly crazy still but sweet and not as sleazy as the rest of the pack.

It's crazy that in 2012 La Toya comes across as the 'voice of reason' while Janet is the poster girl for the greedy, tyrannical craziness of the Jackson clan.

And Jermaine had a reputation as sleazy, underhand and desperate whose most legendary moment as a solo star was a duet with award winning actress and singing superstar Pia Zadora (which I genuinely do love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKeqliGR-Og). Reality tv rebranded him as this zen like kindly family man.

IACGMOOH 2008 had two bona fide legends in the cast- George Takei and Martina Navratilova.

Both were fabulous and deservedly reached the final. Sadly, both went on to do second shows (George Celebrity Apprentice and Martina Dancing With The Stars) where they were both amongst the first to be eliminated.

It makes me feel a little sad inside.

I know some people will kind of like the idea of people who used to big stars of yesteryear appearing to be more 'normal', but I for one would prefer that people I used to see as stars when I was a child I still see as stars now.

So when I see them as if they are performing like monkeys because they need the cash or just basically demeaning themselves for hire it feels very disappointing.

Perhaps because it ruins people's dreams.:D
I think most of us in the Western world are led to believe that you can 'make it' and once you do after many years of hard work you are rewarded by not having to worry about financial security for the rest of your life.
To think that you can became a major celebrity in your field and it actually counts for nothing in later years makes life itself seem very fragile and reminds us that there is no real security to be gained in life.
The thought that you can become a big star and then be 'nothing' again is a bit scary really.

    Legends?........yeah, right.

At the end of the day they are all in SB for the good easy money they can make. Reality tv is just another money maker for them ;)

I'm fine with that because they are still working in the field that they set out to. No shame whatsoever in that I don't think.

I'd probably think very differently if the only work they could get was in really embarrassing adverts that made them look desperate and that it was all they could get.

I wouldn't class any of those in the OP as legends. In fact, the only person mentioned on this thread who I would give legend status to is Navratilova. She;s the only 'legend' I can think of who has taken part in any Reality show.

    What does 'SB' mean?

I agree with you about the notion that some of these names mentioned here are 'legends'.

Corey Feldman? Was he really some major player? I can't even remember what he was in.

    George Takai?
Don't get me wrong he seems like a nice fella and he's recognised as someone who used to be in a big TV show that was resurrected.
But really his role in Star Trek involved mostly being in the background, and Star Trek didn't actually run for that long. If it wasn't for later Star Trek spin-off shows i doubt that most people would have a clue who he was.

What I'm really saying here is that I see no dramatic difference between somebody being a bit part player now if they were a bit part player back then too. It really isn't that severe a fall from grace.

    Martina Navratilova.

I'm sure that better examples of legends who've had a fall from status could be used in this thread.

    Verne Troyer a legend?
    Really?

Something which seems to be overlooked here is that some of these names are probably more famous now than they were before due to reality television.

Oh well you may not consider them legends but I do. The Jacksons are legends to me. So we all have our own opinions on who we think are legends so don't slam mine. I haven't heard of half of the people you are calling legends but that's your opinion on there status so you're entitled to that. If you're going to comment completely off topic on whom I think is a legend then I'd rather you not bothered. But if you're going to post and hold a civilised discussion then I'd like to hear from you!

The Goonies, The Lost Boys, Gremlins, Stand By Me, The Burbs, Friday the 13th. He was a huge star in the 80s.

No. It's just a bit of fun and if it gives them a career boost, bonus. The only downside is when it's someone you really like and they turn out to be a complete pillock.

Reality TV is like the adverts of the 70's.Actors slagged tv adverts off and swore they'd never do one,but most always did eventually, just like todays Reality TV.

I agree Lexi. Plus it's good money for old rope in most cases and the bills still have to be paid, even after the career is over.

Does annoy me a little I try not to watch them, it's like darts player Eric Bristow MBE in his field a legend in darts and is tipped for I'm a celeb. :(

I think it depends why they have chosen to do the show - if it's for fun and they are having good time then it's fine. If it's to reserect a career that's over no so much.

I bought that record, still have it too. I used to watch 'Musicbox' on cable tv all the time and they played fantastic music. I even had my name read out twice on that channel, brilliant times...
