Humax PVR delayed from third quarter to fourth quarter?

Like most people i have waiting for the Humax PVR. I was informed that it was to be released in the third quarter of this year. Now it appears that it has been delayed to late 2008 or even early 2009. The Humax I-Cord PVR has been available for some time in Germany. What is the problem? Is it just to do with the E.P.G. ?

They probably think they will still be trying to get the Dolby Digital audio sync problem fixed until then LOL

Maybe the Alba group will beat them to it, that would sort them out !

Not sure for certain, but the Panasonic freesat TV has a year of exclusivity, so i would imagine the original bunch of freesat manufacturers would have something similar for their PVR's ?

(They better get a move on)

Perhaps Humax forgot to put a record button on the remote control and have gone back to the drawing board

We know it will be with us before 2009 because the freesat website says so...

What is the problem.........lack of a definitive spec from freesat I would imagine.

Too many https Barry... here's a working link: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...9&postcount=24

But well spotted... if Freesat haven't written the specs for the PVR, how do people expect them to produce one on schedule?! No wonder Bob_Cat has never given any dates for the PVR on this forum or anywhere else...

I wonder if my main query, in various threads, about how to record ITV HD is in the spec? Or is it still currently being written?

"I did ask, but all I was told is that the Freesat PVR spec isn't fixed yet.... Clearly, this could be why the Humax PVR box has such widely varying timescales."

That could mean that the manufacturer has not finished writing the specs for the box they are going to manufacture.

When Humax announced that they were delaying the PVR they said it was to concentrate on getting the STB correct (they obviously didn't concentrate hard enough ), NOT because they didn't have a spec.

I should imagine that Freesat are ruing the day they gave Humax exclusivity on the PVR.

Humax are going to take their time over this, after all, they have no competition to contend with, no specific restrictions on timescale from Freesat, and are selling huge quantities of their HD box in the meantime. What we need is some more manufacturers in to help spice things up.

Perhaps they may have changed their minds?

Yes, it could. It could also mean there are no specs available from Freesat for what to build yet....

It could be that Bob and co are building something to their own spec and will "sort it out" when it comes towards production.

We all know it is the latter you mean

Only a naive stirrer would think the former

With the total mess of their standalone receivers would it not be a good idea to hand the sorting of the spec's to a body that had some expertise in the matter as well as listen to the input of the prospective buyers, couldn't run a p##s up in a brewery springs to mind!

<Slightly tongue on cheek>Well, there is always the BSkyB way of doing things.</Slightly tongue on cheek>

I bet a few people at BSkyB HQ will smirk a little if this turns out to be true. If they can just drop the price of the standalone box a bit further I'll get one in

Well it depends which you think is more likely:

1) That Freesat could not, in the space of a year or so, crib the Freeview PVR spec, make a couple of mods and issue it. And that Humax would actually lie about why they were not going to produce a PVR at launch, prefering to take the blame for something that was not their fault.

or

2) That Humax, an outfit who cannot even produce a box that keeps ths sound and vision in synch under all circumstances, are having problems (e.g. getting the basic STB to keep in synch) that prevent them completing the PVR.

I'll leave it up to each reader to decide which is the most naive thing to believe.

It's very sad if freesat have put all their eggs in one basket! It looks like it will be an omelet not a pvr.

Humax PVR delayed from third quarter to fourth quarter?

I'm getting sick and tired of this.

I'm seriously thinking about packing the whole thing in and going to Sky.

Yes it may be pricey and all the rest of it, but at least they've got a bloody product on the market.

I did the same. Just had HD multiroom installed. Working brilliantly. I gave up on Freesat. Disappointing, but you get what you pay for.

I am surprised at some of the remarks on this forum. I remember when freeview came out, a lot of PVRs had problems but most have been fine for a long time now. If people are stupid enought to go to a subscription system then they get all they deserve. I have problems with my Humax but the advantages far outway the disadvantages. I will be waiting for each problem to be sorted out by Humax. I'm sure they will get there in the end. After the flack & impatience some on this forum gave them, I'm not surprised they have left the forum & are making sure the PVR comes out with as few problems as possible. I now have for Free. BBC, ITV, Luxe & National Geographic in HD & am pleased with it. I would like more HD channels but that will come in time. For now I may get a HD card for my Computer or replace my Technomate with a HD Satellite PVR to be able to record the HD channels. But when a Freesat PVR comes out I will buy one of those as well. How I've enjoyed the football, Wimbledon, nature & other programmes in HD. Patience is a Virtue

You need to point your dish to 12.5W (Atlantic Bird 1) where there is 2 SD and 1 HD National Geographic channels.
