What exactly do you think will be earth shattering about this?

Er, the ability for your TV to have access to the entire BBC broadcast schedule (well, more or less) without having to record a single thing? Its the first step towards completely remove the need for PVRs for most people. Its not going to change the world overnight, but it is a fairly revolutionary service to be honest!

Should I be able to see the iPlayer on one of the options (Media I would guess) or will it only be available when it is rolled out to everyone? I checked my box last night and I have the latest software (.12) and looking at the Humax site the iPlayer was rolled out in .11.

I am not expecting to use the iPlayer I just thought it might be there.

Surely it's going to look truely bloody awful on big tv's which people now have in the lounge.
Looks good on my 37". We watched an hour of Delia yesterday & totally forgot it was on iplayer.

Why would you want to use low quality iPlayer images instead of high quality PVR ones?.

Hardly revolutionary, when it's already been going for years, and is simply been added to another 'receiver'.

Why would you not want access to all BBC content? What a bizzare question!

Who said it was revolutionary? Better to have iPlayer access on your Freesat box than using another device. And most Freesat users do not have a PVR so it will be even more usefull for them. A no-brainer you numpty

Although it's brand new now and not perfect quality, surely it's in place for when broadband is much improved and the picture will be almost perfect - whenever that will be?

Only on Humax Hd boxes at the moment. I think some are in for a shock when their broadband suppliers slaps on a download limit.

And, frankly, it is a significant step, as far as many ordinary users (ie not the sort of people who tend to come on here) are concerned.

Rather than having a games device or a network media player with iPlayer bolted on somehow, this is going to provide it though the same devices that many people already use to watch their TV, using the same remote, and in a much more seemless manner.

That's what's going to make a massive difference, I think, in terms of the acceptance of video on demand for the general public. It's already very popular on Virgin, most likely due to simple integration in the one bit of kit, and making it easy to access via Freesat (and later Freeview HD) is going to have a bigger impact than I think some here realise.

It really is starting to take on-demand watching from the realm of the geek into that of the 'ordinary person'

That's why some are considering it revolutionary.

iPlayer will be accessed via an MHEG application - that's the interactive stuff that you call up via the red button.

The application will then request the appropriate stream via the ethernet port on the receiver.

So come on, whats keep all the beta testers - the BBC person has basically said its okay to tell everyone else 'the secret code'

By "at the time" I really did mean "at the time". And the time is NOT now

Give us a chance to make sure it's working first! Better for you to get access to something we know works properly, than something that may break and disappoint you all.

BBCi Tech Team please do not read ....

Once we get the said code, where do you put it ? Has anyone seen a page or menu that is asking for a it, which will gain access to the iplayer ?

Presumably when you press "Guide" and select "Interactive", it'll be in there somewhere.
