ipod touch, iPhone or ipad?
Hi there
I currently have a HTC Desire on contract with Vodafone, and was going to buy an iphone and use my current contract, but Vodafone would drop my minutes from 900 to 600 and texts from unlimited to 500. So basically I am now unsure as to weather i should get an iphone, ipad or ipod touch. I don’t want a contrast on price comparison, as I am fully aware of the differences here. |

Normally I'd always say iPhone. But given your situation I'd say iPod touch, especially with the new one out soon. That way you'll be able to get the best of both OS's, minus a couple of iPhone features that the touch doesn't have. But your HTC Desire should make up for most of them.

I'm surprised you include the iPad in with the iPhone and iTouch, as the iPad is essentially a massively oversized iTouch, intended for quite different uses (I really don't get this iPad advert thing of carrying the iPad everywhere as it seems more like a gadget to use and leave at home, not take with you).

Is the Mi-Fi system from 3 a possible solution to lack of 3G on ipod touch, its a mobile broadband dongle and gives out the signal as wi-fi.

I love both my iphone 4 and my ipad but having both is a luxury rather than a necessity. |

Then you can add the plus that by separating the iDevice from the mobile-phone part of things, and that the MiFi can be easily unlocked for use with any any mobile operator, you avoid any potential iPhone unlocking issues now and in the future when you update the iPhone software. Needless to say it can work out a lot cheaper for data than with official iPhone contracts. All that said, the iPhone is better overall, but it is more expensive too so it certainly should be. Which is best for you will depend on what you want. Weigh up the pros and cons. And if an Android OS phone is the best option, go for that. |

You shouldn't need it - you've got an Android phone, doesn't that have a tethering option? Then it would be doing the same job as a MiFi.

I can say from first-hand experience that the new Wi-Fi from Three (the one with the monochrome OLED display) is much better than the previous one which had five various coloured LEDs to display what was happening. It's not as pretty when you turn it on as the previous one, but it instead of having to press three buittons to get it working, this new one is a one-button hold for two seconds, and it activates everything in about 45 secs or so. It only has the one button in fact, instead of the three buttons of the former model, which had to be used in sequence.
Quite apart from the much improved display which provides useful imformation, and the fact there is a little green LED on the power button which remains on continually (the previous model gave no indication it was turned on after the five bright LEDs on the front went off after fifteen seconds or so, meaning I often took it out my pocket at the end of the evening not realising it was still on as there was no indication it was) the new MiFi is managed totally via a web browser, so you don't need to install software to manage it, and the SMS facility it comes with can actually be used for sending and receiving messages via the the web browser from something like an iPod touch. It is a major improvement on the old model, and I'd say that it is now far superior to using a phone for the same purpose, because it is much smaller than any phone, and much simpler to use-- hold the button for two seconds and in less than a minute, your wifi hotspot is fully functional. That's all there is to it, press the button and provided you are in range of a signal, your mobile WiFi router is working. |

Personally I would take the iPhone. I hate having more than one device on me, the iPhone can do everything of the iPod Touch and then some. The iPad is still a luxury item to have if you can afford it. It can't replace a computer for most people yet and it is too big to replace the iPod Touch or iPhone.
My setup at the moment is an iMac, iPhone and iPad. Use my iMac for storing everything and occasionally surfing the web, I do most my surfing and email at home on my iPad and use the iPad on holidays for books and movies, then use the iPhone as an everyday phone, music player and web browser when I am out and about. |

Is there any way we can have the iPad make video phone calls like on the iPod touch with FaceTime?
