I have recently come across:

Soft Machine
Nick Drake
buffalo Springfield

who make some excellent music.

Just wondering if there is anything else out there which I don't know about but should.

I guess I have heard a track or two on the radio of these groups over the years and didn't take much notice and realise who they were, or how good their music is.

I kind of remember the name 'Nick Drake' and 'Buffalo Springfield', but can't remember anything about 'Soft Machine' - I found 'Vol 1 and Vol 2 of Soft Machine's albums brilliant, but was not too sure about Vol 3!

Ofcoarse, to some people these groups are not obscure at all.

If you like Soft Machine try 'Matching Mole'

They were a spin off band formed by one of the Soft Machine guys who brought in some of his mates from other prog-rock groups..............

Don't know much about Nick Drake, apart from that he's always been a 'cult' figure............but didn't he do an album with Kylie in the 90s ?..........or was that some other 'cult' figure..........

That'd be Nick Cave. Nick Drake died in the 70s.

Nick Drake recorded one of my favourite songs "fly" which I know from the soundtrack of the film The Royal Tenembaums (which also introduced me to another tragic great, Elliot Smith)

Wes Anderson soundtracks are a great source of good music, I also have his films to thank for introducing me to Nico.

In terms of obscure(ish) artists I have a lot of time for:

Helen Love
I, Ludicrous (especially the song preposterous tales of Ken McKenzie, please listen to it, wonderfully funny)
Rights of Spring (not obscure if you are into that sort of music but if you are not a fan and ever want to get "emo" properly please listen to them)

I'm probaly not old enough to properly contribute to this thread (I was born in 84) but thats as good as I can come up with.
