Saw this today, and quite liked it. Thought it was about the right length. But I would not say its a film that will have multiple viewings.
I didn't find the arm bit that bad but that may have been because I had heard of it so was kind of waiting for it. I suspect had I not had known about it then it might of been more shocking. I did notice a guy a few rows in front had his hood up and head down while it was on though.

I think the film is grossly overated and does not live up to it's billing. Interesting in parts, but dull in others. Apart from the amputation scene and the feelgood factor when he gets free, the rest of the film is instantly forgetable

It's a very beautiful film. I would love to see what wins at the Oscars. I hope it's any of the teenager testosterone films like Social Network and Inception and hopefully, something like this, Black Swan and some other films I have seen that are far better than Social Network and Inception put together - five times.

Eh? Neither of those films are particularly aimed at the teenage market, especially The Social Network. Just because it's related to Facebook doesn't mean that it's automatically for teens, far from it. Infact, i'd be very surprised if the actual subject matter of the film appealed to many teens. Aaron Sorkin's script alone makes it a shoe in for the Oscars.

Look at these ratings.

Look at how much teens and people around that age give the film as opposed to older viewers.

Do you see the same? Teenagers give higher scores than adults, Almost a whole point higher on average or more.

Both films are popular at the teenage market sold at the time when teenagers can watch them. Social Network has the backing of the investors behind facebook. Inception, while a better film than Social Network is hardly even close to the quality of films we've had this year.

The Social Network has to be one of the dullest films in history. It's nice to watch. A bit like a documentary improvised by actors but what happens in it? Apart from a court case... what exactly happens? It's unbelievably pointless and any awards it gets is built from the popularity of facebook and the investment/commercial backing that it has.

Aaron Sorikin's script? LOL.

Have you ever heard a child tell you a story. It goes like this "Then this happened then that happened then this happened then that happened then this happened then we went there then we did this and then we did that".

If that's what wins oscars then big business and the banks have taken over Hollywood.

Just back from seeing this and I loved it. I didn't enjoy Slumdog Millionaire after all the hype about it, but I loved this film. I thought it probably works best if you are aware of the amputation, it makes the whole build up to it terrifying. Every time we saw the blade I cringed because I knew what he was going to eventually use it for.

The scene itself is pretty bad, a lady in my theatre left when he was cutting his nerves. The sound effects were much more disturbing than the gore imo.

Also thought the talk show bit was great for breaking up the tension before the arm scene. "Oops!"

I thought it was a very good film - tough to watch in places and made me feel claustrophic I didnt find the amputation scene THAT bad, it was grisly but it didnt last long.
I take the point about the sound effects though, they made the scene rather than the gore and I knew it was coming.

I get that not much happened but to be honest, that made it realistic in a way. It would be dull trapped down there wouldnt it?
I liked how they played with hallucinations and things like the rain coming down.
There was definitely a feelgood factor when he gets himself free.

I really want to see this & just finished reading the book. I didn't cringe about the arm cutting part (in the book) UNTIL he mentioned about the nerve bit...it just makes me cringe for some reason so watching it could either make me visualise it better (to understand and not cringe at it) or it'll make me gag.

Annoying that the English Media would hype up ANY Danny Boyle film, eg a film called "Going To The Toilet" about a man going to the toilet to do a number 2, as being amazing, thrilling, beyond ones wildest imaginations and truly groundbreaking.

When the big scene came it was not the actual cutting that made me cringe but the sound of the breaking bone - I yelped!
My main thought after is could I do something like that - I really don't think I could - I'm just not brave enough - what an amazing chap to do such a thing - I had tears in my eyes as he made it out - I found it very moving.

Yeah, I haven't cried at a film in a long long time but his walking away and everything else was great and had me blubbering away.

People who are saying this film is boring unfortunately missed the experience and the whole point of the film; you're not watching a guy in a hole - you're living it. By the end I was a wreck and had traversed the full gamut of emotions.

It's not one I'll be queueing up to ride again, but it's one hell of a trip.

it was alright , well directed and acted , but I didn't learn much about the guy . Considering he's trapped and may die it seemed like we should learn more about his life in the flashbacks , but not a lot to it really .

Sorry but that may have been the experience you had but mine was no where near. I don't think there really was much of an experience.
I've seen films before and have been on the edge of my seat and really felt for the character but not this one, but everyone's different I guess.

I watched it last night, I thought it was alright.

I did like how quickly the "getting stuck" scene came. And how rapidly it was cut together. I thought there would be a lot of shots of him rock climbing before the accident. I didn't know it happened right at the beginning.

Yeah, the best parts for me were the beginning, his attempts at freeing himself and the end. I can see why they did the hallucination scenes though.
