I went to a talk with Benard Cornwell and he said Paul McGann was originally Sharpe, but badly broke his leg shortly after filming started.
All the shortlisted actors had accepted other projects, and so they had to use this guy called Sean Bean ![]() ![]() ![]() About 30 episodes later... |

Also fortune in finding Daragh O'Malley to play Harper to perfection (not bad for Harries and Hagman either). Quote:

With respect, what have you seen him in? Admittedly, his Sheffield accent can ooze through a little whatever role he's playing, but I think the characters he plays are totally different. He can be thoroughly villainous (Patriot Games, Don't Say a Word), or a strong, decent leader (Sharpe, Game of Thrones), and as Lady Chattersley's lover....well, let's just say he was different again! ![]() ![]() Another film I saw again recently which had him in was Troy. |

The guy crops up in so many films it's not even funny. Notable ones for me were Outlaw, Goldeneye, Ronin and Fellowship of the Ring. |

I thought he was good as the fantasist, wannabe hardman dismantled by Robert De Niro in Ronin.

Another vote for Sharp, it's one of the few roles he doesn't wind up dead in.....serously, every time i see a film and it has Sean Bean in it chances are he's going to die.

I've never rated him but found him surprisingly good when he played a tranny. I've forgot what it was called.

I tend to find he plays Sean Bean in everything
he is in.The Bond one (Goldeneye?) had him attempting to 'talk posh' for a bit but then he reverted to his own 'ooop north' accent. Apparently a nice bloke but a crap actor! |
