sound out of sync on recordings

since tuning to winter hill the recordings have been a lot improved with series link now working and recordings starting on time ----well at least most of them.

it's a 9150T
unfortunately the sound is now out of sync which didn't happen previously and in some recordings a lot out of sync.

i have made numerous recordings in the last two days on various channels and not one has perfect sound sync.

is there any hope for this frustrating humax machine or should it go back to the creators.

Is the synchronisation restored if you press Pause twice? This is a sign of poor reception and usually associated with pixellation on recordings.

hi max i'll try that if it happens again with the sound sync.

i have tried turning the machine off for a few minutes and on again and up to now all is well with the sound sync problem.

i'm not holding my breath though.

i'm loathe to call in the aerial fitters again because all they do is solve one problem but create another and take my money.

The signal strength and quality you have quoted previously are excellent and I do not think your installation needs any attention at this time.

thank you martin the sound sync problem was the latest bug but i think i've got it sussed as max suggested to press pause twice to synchronise the sound. turning off the machine was not a permanent fix.

i've been in touch with humax support and they did reply promptly but i'm sticking with what i have -----------for the moment at least.

the next software update is 28th sept to 30th sept.

i believe that i must leave the machine on bbc1 on standby for the updates------is it 4am when it is transmitted?

It is transmitted continuously from 10am on the first day to 9am on the last day. You can either let the box update automatically overnight (it doesn't matter what channel you were watching when the box is put into standby) or you can initiate the update manually any time after 10am on the day the transmission starts; note that there can be a delay of several minutes with nothing obviously happening as the box waits to find the start of the update.

The software update schedule is here.

http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/download_schedule.php

The update is broadcast continuously between the start and end times listed. So you can pick it up any time you wish. The 4AM thing is just when the box itself wakes up and goes looking for the update. And you don't have to leave it set to BBC 1 either, it will find it OK all by itself.

However you can if you so wish kick off an update manually at any time while it is being broadcast. If you go into the menus and select Installation then Software Update you have several choices. Perversely the one you want to select is Auto Update (Manual needs you to enter all sorts of info you may not know before it does anything). Let it go off and find the update and just follow whatever prompts it displays.

Not quite true, if you select BBC1 (or any other channel on the same multiplex) before going into Menu then "all sorts of info you may not know" is preselected for you and the machine finds the software quicker than using Automatic Update.

The above situation is when you set the machine to BBC1 simply to save you from having to enter information you may not know..

IMO the Humax Freeview SD PVRs are quite good but like all other such devices they are not perfect. It appears that many issues occur on a random basis and different makes of PVRs do some things better than others. My solution to this is to use two PVRs for most recordings each backing up the other. This reduces the effect of random failures. I use a Vestel PVR because of it's better Accurate recording "accuracy" compared to my Humax but use the Humax most of the time as I prefer it's user interface in most respects.
