v37956.1

3viewSupport 22/08/11 at 09:42 AM

This build has the fix to reflect the youtube API change.

Known issue:

We have added a new menu item which has effected the 'series option' box - this is not coming up correctly in this version so we will build a 3795.2 asap.
Press OK whilst viewing > select a programme > press OK > you should see the series options box but its not coming up. We've added a change to this menu so we know what's wrong - we'll rebuild asap.

Release Notes

----------------------

This release addresses the YouTube issue as well as two of the causes of duplicate recordings.

YouTube changed the way URL references to content were returned. The parsing logic has been changed to accommodate this.

There are known causes of duplicate recordings:

1. User sees program in EPG, status is "not recording" because status has not been updated yet. User selects program & records series. This happens when event data is still coming in, so series jobs have not yet been recomputed. (bug 5659)

2. Program is recorded properly, but is scheduled to record again due to EPG update with or without reboot. This happens because the job is not reallydeleted after it has completed. (bug 5736)

3. User creates recording conflict, and chooses to time-shift the program. User the selects the program, and chooses the “Record This Showing Too”option. This allows other alternatives, and chooses the same alternative that is already being recorded. (bug 5737)

Bugs 5659 and 5737 are fixed in this release. The improvements include:

1. Before showing a recording prompt, the scheduled recordings are checked if they may involve the program. If program data is new, this should prevent the creation of multiple series/single recordings for the same series/episode.

2. Checks scheduled recordings at least once a minute while EPG updates are arriving. Before, the checks could be delayed indefinitely if new EPG datacontinues to arrive.

3. Add -removeDuplicateSeries option to remove duplicate scheduled series recordings. 3view should consider including this in their next build, so that customers with existing duplicate series recordings can have their databases fixed.

4. When you choose "Record This Showing Also" (wording changed), it will record that instance only. This disallows alternatives, so a conflict dialog is displayed and the user must cancel one of the conflicting recordings.

Thank you!

If anyone else wants to trawl Google's cache and post here, it would be appreciated - I can only do so many!

Incidentally, thanks for your efforts taking the time to provide this cached info.

Richard.
The reason I ask is that I'm thinking of downgrading to this release as I value being able to use the features via the INFO button (rather than going into the guide) more than that of using the YouTube function.

Am I able to safely reinstall this version without causing any adverse effects? (such as loss of recording etc)

Thanks,

Richard.

rg001c7345.
I didn't update to the latest "beta" because it said you could not revert back without the box being remotely connected to 3 View.
Very glad I didn't ... if people try to revert back me thinks it's "good night box".
Regards

Fair point. I won't mess with the box as without support/warranty I'd be screwed.

What software version should I install and where can I find it?

My 3view box (one of the pre-ordered ones and, yes, I did get the Homeplugs!) is now failing to record scheduled programmes, locks up when using pause/play and scanning now fails to find some channels which were previously available to me. Now that 3view is apparently defunct, I want to have one last go at resetting and reinstalling my box to try to get it to work satisfactorily before consigning it to the bin and forking out for a replacement.

My current software version is 36171/2 which is the latest available on the 3view website. Is v37956.1 a better stable version? Should I update to this version, or is there a better one available? I understand there is also v37956.2, but I can't find a link to it.

Can anyone advise on the best vailable version and provide a download link, please?

The latest beta is very stable and available from the links in the above posts. I would advise you to update to that version.

Be advised that if you do ---should it go wrong, you will not be able to reinstall previous software.

I've had my box on the 36171 version since it was launched, and not bothered with the newer version. As far as I can tell, all I lose is the youtube functionality, which was a nice feature but not something I really have a need to use through my TV. So I've stuck with 36171 and found it very stable and reliable. I've no reason to "upgrade", so won't be doing so.

On the basis of my stability, I would suggest only upgrade if the youtube functions are essential (unless someone knows differently).
