After seeing the clips I won't be watching. I didn't even smile at the clips, it looks boring and unfunny as hell. Gervais trying to play a 'dumb' character with a constant stupid expression on his face is like the kind of thing he might have done in the past but as parody, not as something we're meant to take straight. Karl playing a role other than himself (even though it IS just himself) is also pointless.
I loved The Office and Extras, so I'm not just someone who bashes Gervais for the sake of it. I just wish he'd go back to doing something good. Life's Too Short, while a great idea, was dreadfully executed. |

Btw, they are calling this a 'pilot', right? Well they blatantly know it's not good enough to go to series, which is why it's being shown! There's absolutely no chance more will be made. It's easy to say that now even.

Channel 4 screen the pilot, if the response is good a series is made. Why does it just being a pilot mean its rubbish EVERY show has a pilot. |

Ricky is currently writing a full series for it so someone must be interested in it

Will it be as bad as Life's Too Short?

How come this is on Channel 4, when everything else he has done has been shown on BBC2 ? (Apart from his stand-ups and An Idiot Abroad)

In the clip he looked like he was doing a schoolyard "spaz" face, if it wasn't Ricky Gervais would the right-on Channel 4 touch this with a barge pole?

I adore Ricky Gervais, love The Office and Extras and have seen him live twice. But was very disappointed with Life's Too Short so am hoping Derek will be better.

Am confused though. I thought he was playing a service user of a day centre but hes playing somebody who works at a retirement home?

It's an appauling trailer, maybe their saving the best bits for the show, so they don't ruin it? [Wishful thinking, it's probably gonna be crap]

I'm really not a fan of Ricky Gervais, the only time I found him slightly amusing, was on the simpsons when he 'guest starred' on that.

Lifes too Short was great at times but as somebody said it was poorly executed.
I wonder if Ricky decided to make ''Derek'' after the ''2 mongs don't make a right'' incident?

I've always thought Gervais was a one trick pony. I never liked The Office, and I thought Extras was self indulgent sychophantic rubbish.
His 'dwarf' comedy had a lot of short comings and basically bombed. Now he's drafted in his former radio producer Karl in an acting role. Once again, his lack of judgement shows no bounds. Just another mate put in an acting role, whether he can act or not. As usual, I won't be watching.

That face he's constantly pulling looks like the 'Joey' impression children did when I was at school.
That in itself isn't a good sign. Not only for obvious reasons but also because it just doesn't look believable. It looks more like a Little Britain character. Which might work if that's the type of cartoony show he's trying to make, but not if he's trying to do the reality fly on the wall style comedy that he usually does. |
