When there was a Judge Dread record amongst them.
Or 'God Save The Queen' by the Sex Pistols!

The only other record I remember not being played was 'Love To Love You Baby' by Donna Summer...

You're right he did have a James Mason quality about his voice. He did do at least one other show for Radio 1 when he interviewed Abba in 1976.

Tom popped up on Radio 2 in the early 80s doing the weekend Late Show and sitting in for David Symonds on the weekday programme Much More Music

He did have a lovely voice, maybe not suited to pop radio but certainly as a voice over artist.

It was strange that he never once presented Top of The Pops

How strange is this? Being a long-time radio listener I often check out what's going on via DS. Yesterday I was at a neighbour's funeral when a chap stood up and gave a wonderful, short, speech about his cousin. He had a marvelously resonant voice and clearly was used to speaking in public.

Afterwards we asked one of the sons of the deceased who he was. 'Tom Browne' came the answer. 'He used to be a DJ on Radio One'.

I can report his voice is still as some of you remember.
