Championship to Pl champions in 10 years

Unless Man city lose to Qpr, they will be Crowned Pl Champions next Sunday, if you had said to their fans when they were promoted in 2000 this would happen they would have sent for the white coats
remember this is a club who were up and down in the bottom half of the pl, C/ship and league one as well, and never threatened the top 10 never mind the top 4 , few years ago people were saying that the champions league places would be Chelski(tho they wouldnt be there without a sugar daddy either) Arsenal, liverpool and Mu , so now thats been smashed surely its not impossible for a Championship, or even L1 club to get some one in and take them right to the top ,

You only have to look at Newcastle to see how it could be done 3 years ago they were playing likes of Brighton, next season could be Barcelona Withdean to Nou camp in 3 years

Remember neither city or chelsea were a name in world football before theis sugar daddys arrived , & there are enough big name clubs in the Championship who have recent history in the last 30 odd years , so whos to say it wont happen again

yes if they have lots of money, without the rich owners they'd be no where near the top

Yep, all it takes is a few hundred million dumped into the club.

Sad thing is these days it is only going to be possible for clubs to do this sort of thing if they have mega-rich owners.

Whereas in the past teams have managed to get promoted to the top flight and then become champions within 2-3 years of getting there - teams like Forest, Derby and Leeds all did it in the past - since the advent of the Premier League the gulf between the top of the Premier League and the Championship is now so huge it takes £100s of millions to do it.

But hey, if that's what it now takes and someone is willing to do it, good luck to em. It's the only way fans of many clubs could ever dream of seeing their club challenging at the top so I doubt I'd complain if it happened to my club.

The sad fact is that other fans won't be able to have the same dream come true as city fans due to the current UEFA financial rules coming into effect

It is a greater achievement for team on a limited budget to make it into the Premiership and finish in the top half of the table.

Still someway to go to beat Nott'm Forest's achievement of Div 2 to Div 1 Champions then European Cup Winners then retain the European Cup.

Do you not remember Chelsea pre-Roman?? yes they had a cash injection, but nowere near on the scale that Man City have had. Chelsea had already qualified for the CL the season before, and were only a few minutes away from a CL semi-final a couple of years before that. They had already won a European trophy (the last Cup Winners Cup) and won a European Super Cup, FA and League Cups in the few years running up to the Abramovich takeover.

To say that Chelsea wouldn't have been in a CL position without their 'sugar daddy' is wrong.

Had Chelsea lost to Liverpool on the last day of the 02-03 season, would that defeat and faliure to qualify for the Champions League have influenced Abramovich's decision to buy Chelsea?

True... and Didn't Blackburn do it a lot quicker than Man City...

in my eyes they will always be the team I watched get spanked 3-1 by Lincoln City in the League Cup...

Doubt it. He probably would have got Chelsea at a lower price had they not qualified. The London location still made it appealing.

Was actually pointing out that they hadnt played in either the European cup/cl before roman arrived and had been anywhere near winning the League , in fact according to Trevor birch they were eating off plactic cuttery in the canteen, and were 100 million in debt, in fact when he came to Leeds he said Leeds debt is nowhere near on the scale of what Chelseas was, and winning minor competions in the cup winners cup or f a cup want going to chance that they needed a buyer or they were going to end up in the Championship at best, we (cfc) got lucky and found someone who wanted to buy a club in a wealthy part of London and Stamford bridge was a stones throw from Chelsea harbour , nothing to do with the club or history it was property he was after and thats all there is to it, bates took his money and the rest is history (sadly Bates then came to Leeds and despite being there 7 years has not put 1 penny of his own money into the club and at the same time charged us one of the highest st prices in the country ever since range from £650/720 to watch the likes of Brighton/mIllwall, barnsley etc

They had played in the CL before Roman arrived.

Also, it wasn't the Championship last time Man City were in it, it was called Division 1.

and I was pointing out they HAD played in the champions league before Roman arrived, not only qualified that year but a season or so before played out an epic 2 leg game against Barcelona....if you're a chelsea fan you would surely know that?? I hope you're not perpetuating that that stereotype that we all get branded with?

Blackburn: (old) division 2 1992 play-off winners, promoting them to the brand new Premier League. Champions 3 years later in 1995.
Beat that City.

..let's just ignore the unfortunate events of yesterday at Ewood shall we though?
