It is now free but so repellant that I can't be bothered to read it anymore. Once upon a time I used to buy it.

The only paper I read is the Mail, so I can't really vote. My mum buys the Mail and I usually have a read when I'm round there. It's full of celeb gossip and 'OMG single mother with 12 children and is living in a mansion at our expense - all benefit claimants are bone idle and a little bit evil' stories. The only decent section is the the Downton Abbey spoilers, because along with benefit claimants, single mothers and immigrants it also seems obsessed with Downton.

I'm no fan of the DM but as illustrated above it is nowhere near as toxic as the Scum.
I hate both papers but I think the thing is , the Sun knows its a bit shit with some of its tongue in cheek headlines I guess, whereas the Mail actualy thinks of itself as a "quality newspaper" which is very scary.

I suggest you read the OP again, it clearly says "which one do you dislike the most". A lot of us have pointed out exactly that, and why our choice is the Mail. The Star and The Express have very little influence over popular opinion, the Mail does.

Again you seem a little confused. It's not the left-wingers who are filled with hate, it's the Mail that is filled with hate.

And FYI yes, I do read Mail articles on a regular basis - all I have to do is come on DS to see what the latest outrage is all about this time - without fail there is always a link to, you guessed it, a Mail article. Sometimes those articles make me laugh for their absurdity, but some make me despair with the level of sheer hatred they display towards whatever the choice of the day is. Women and Muslims, mostly.

Sure, other papers have their pet hates as well, but none of them take it to such an eye-watering level as the Mail.

Look at the amount of information they have about it, naming columnists, mentioning past articles.

I really think it provides them with a frissom of satisfaction, bit like dirty sex.
Bit disgusted with themselves, can't stop seeking it out.

The DM being online is I think, equivalent of on line porn.
No more shuffling down the newsagents in a long mac and dark glasses.
Haha it's true! The Daily Mail is my guilty pleasure, although I don't agree with most of the views expressed in it and always read between the lines of every story. I know it's crap, but I read it for the entertainment value.

For serious news I go to the Indy or the Guardian though.

Oh yes they are. The Mail has been right about pretty much every major issue for decades.

Just to clarify: The title of the thread is "Which is the Worst"
anyone with (at least half a brain) will know it is certainly not The Mail - the Newspaper of the Year.

You are confusing hatred with chiming with most of the British people. It's only Left-wing cranks who think otherwise.

It's the fact that some people seem to seriously regard it as the Newspaper of the Year which makes it infinitely more worrying.

You are clearly a Mail reader - you don't read further than the title!

And nah, the vast majority of people I know despise the Mail, and they're not exactly Left-wing cranks/Guardian readers. Just ordinary people who can engage their brains.

There are lots of folk on the right who would disagree with that. The Mail has a flavour of its own and it's definitely not pleasant. There would be more respect for the right if several of the kind of views the Mail spreads were to disappear. For starters, I struggle to take any paper seriously which partakes in such blatent misogyny... the vote came years ago, chaps ??

Given we're supposed to be discussing what we feel is the worst paper instead of trying to defend any, I've got to say the Sun and the Daily Star are pretty poor.

But by some distance the winner of the worst paper is also (in some quarters at least) the "Newspaper of the Year"

The Guardian can't stand it and will never buy it. They couldn't even get me to read it if it was free.

The guy is only there so that they can claim not to be homophobic as they have a gay guy working for them, when he was first employed many people acknowledged that they see him as a sell-out and that he's only there to aid the homophobic's agenda
