This season I think Joan and Layne are really underused. And Peggy to a certain extent as she has been a main character for a long time.

I think Pete and Megan are a bit overused to be honest.

Jared Harris was in a few of the final episodes of Fringe, so perhaps he couldn't fully commit to Mad Men? Don't know if the filming schedules overlapped.

Megan is. She has had the majority of screen time over Joan and Peggy. I said this on the previous page. No one cared though.

If only lane was around, we haven't seen him since the 'Fight'.

Oh my word - I have JUST this second realised after reading your post that Lane is RDJ

To be fair, Mad Men really is "The Don Draper Show" He's the central character, he's the silhouette in the intro and it's all about his life. All the other characters are present only because of their affect and interactions with DD.

On that basis, it's not unreasonable for his new wife to have a great deal of screen time, even though she's waaay down in the credits.

Time will tell whether that changes. I still reckon she'll dump him.

I agree. Usually it's Don doing the dumping, but this time around i think Megan is going to realise that she is not the type of wife that Don really wants. I reckon she'll dump him too. If she survives and makes it to season 6 i will be very surprised. It's like Megan's father said to go for her dreams. Don't think that's possible living in the shadow of Don.

The show couldn't have survived if only Don Draper was in it. Most non watchers of Mad Men would know it for one reason. Well two. And they're both on Christina Hendricks' chest. She is the face of the show.

We were supposed to have some background on Don and Joan this season.

That's nonsense! Jon Hamm aka Don Draper is the face of the show and always has been since the 1st episode. If CH was the face of the show do you not think we'd see more of her?

We'll see more of Don and Joan next week!

No. It isn't nonsense. Before I watched MM, the only character I knew about was Joan. She was in all the magazines and referenced more than any other character.

Nobody suggested that - wherever did you get that idea from?

That's completely irrelevant.
A computer generated weasel is the "face" of Compare The Market, but that doesn't mean the company is about (or run by) small furry creatures. Just because the marketing people put a pretty face up as pre-publicity doesn't mean that the show is about that person. It only means the publicists know how to sucker people in to watching it.

OT but Jon Hamm has signed up for a new drama series on Sky Arts.

Quote:
Jon Hamm and Daniel Radcliffe will appear in an extraordinary new series for Sky Arts, based on the memoirs of a Russian doctor working during the Russian Revolution, as part of the brand new series of Playhouse Presents...

A Young Doctor’s Notebook, which will broadcast on Sky Arts in 2013, is a unique four-part comedy drama based on a collection of short stories by the celebrated Russian writer and playwright Mikhail Bulgakov.

Jon Hamm will take on the role of the older doctor, who has a series of bleakly comic exchanges with his younger self, played by Daniel Radcliffe.

What a stupid comparison.

The bottom line is, there are several major characters, Joan, Lane, Roger and Peggy who are woefully underused in favour of Megan. Other Mad Men fans across the net on various forums (such as TWOP, who call her "St" Megan) have noticed it and it is even being noticed in reviews by American online publications.

She's his wife! Of course we're going to see more of her. We did when they worked together at SDCP and when they're at home together. You're clearly a Megan hater!

The way I look at it, is that if more of Megan means less of Betty, I am happy to make that trade off.

I must be the only person who likes Betty's character, I think it's the blend of personalities that makes this show so compelling!! No one is all good.

I'm certain she still loves Don deep down, hence the bitchiness and jealousy has reared it's ugly head again!

I think she's finally viewing Henry as a bit of a bore! which he is.

That's how it is in life, yes I know it's only a show!

I just feel Betty's story is done. I don't care about if she loses weight or anything she does. I think the other characters are more interesting and she brings the pace of the show to a halt.

Same here. I really dislike the character of Betty and not in a 'love to hate' way. She just bores me. Her job is done.

More Joan and Peggy please!

Quite agree about Betty. But she is Sally's mother and Sally's character is a reflection on how her mother and father have both moulded her. She is gonna be one messed up teenager because of these two people.

I love Megan, and hate Betty. I just wish we had more of Joan.
