Will be interesting to see how they handle it.

If they're going to put Murray on ITV1 it's going to have to be very short notice as they won't know when his match is going to start (unless he's first on court which is very unlikely).

They only seem to be putting a bit on ITV 1 on Day 1 because the IPL is on ITV4.

I'm a little suspicious ITV won't rip up ITV1 schedules at short notice but then BBC viewing figures have demonstrated it can pay big dividends to do so.

We shall see ....
I wouldn't have thought they would. It helps for the BBC that they have the advantage of being able to put the interrupted programmes on BBC Two. ITV don't have that luxury (ITV2/3/4 are not comparable) and French Open matches are notorious for going on for 3/4+ hours

When are the semis played, Friday like Wimbledon? If you have Murray vs Nadal then ITV would be crazy not to switch that to ITV1

I'm sure they may. It's encouraging that this year the French Open is getting its most comprehensive coverage on both free and pay TV.

Digiguide show that, but not the Sky EPG.
My Sky EPG has French Open on ITV1 - Sunday 2.45pm to 5.30pm.

When I checked on Monday morning, it also said it correctly then on Sky's EPG.

Again, would depend on the schedule, If it were the second game there's the potential for a clash with them showing Russia vs Czech Republic in the evening (last year the semis went on til about 8:30/9 at night)

Of course Euro 2012 is Listed event so could we have the totally bizarre situation of ITV being legally forced to take a Murray grand slam semi-final off ITV1 to show an all foreign Euro group game?

In practice perhaps ITV would get an OFCOM emergency dispensation.

Just shows really how silly it is for the whole of the Euros to be listed when there are countless bigger events not listed.

eg Champions League Final not listed, all foreign Euro group games are listed. Absurd.

Going by 'tv love guide' for sunday 27 may French open tennis is live on ITV4 9.30 - 2.30, ITV1 takes the racket at 2.45 - 5.30 with ITV3 5.30 until 8pm.
Quite an improvement from the red buttion service last year as at best you got was four or five hours a day.

I agree it's great that ITV 4 are offering coverage like that this year, I wasn't debating that.

I was just referring to an earlier post and how it's probably easier for the BBC to switch an Andy Murray match at Wimbledon to BBC 1 at short notice because they can put Eastenders, the news etc onto BBC 2. There would be more of an issue for ITV to switch the news, Emmerdale etc off ITV1 at short notice to say ITV3 for example.

Sure, that is a very good point. I think the Murray matches ( if they are played 5pm+) should stay on ITV4 at least in the early rounds. Most people now can get freeview so should not really be a problem.

One added bonus in my option is ITV4+1 meaning those from work can catch up a bit more.

Not on Sky (well without resort to other channels menu)

Won;t advertising have already been sold on ITV1 & ITV4 based on the planned schedule. Even if they switched Murray, would it have a major impact on ITV's bottom line?

Impressive commitment from ITV. Not often I have reason to praise them like this but this quantity of coverage shames the pathetic (lack of) effort the BBC used to give it. And no Andrew Castle! Hurrah! If ITV do the business with the French I wouldn’t be against them eventually getting hold of Wimbledon and Queens and it would serve (pun intended) the BBC right if they did!

ITV are certainly building a quite impressive sports portfolio. Given the BBC's scaling down of their coverage it is great news and very important for free to air broadcasting.

I would have no problem with them (or C4/C5) taking over some of the BBC's remaining sports if it means the Corporation can concentrate more on original comedy and drama production

Agree about Andrew Castle, how can he criticise someone for playing a bad shot when he was at best a poor tennis player himself.

The BBC have got Queens & Wimbledon tied up to 2017 so they cannot get them yet and to be honest I see them as BBC events so I wouldn't like ITV to get them however the ATP Finals at the O2 Arena or the Austrailian Open may be an option for ITV

Like you saw the Grand National and Royal Ascot as BBC events? We all know what's happened there!

Fair shout about the ATP Finals, but the Australian Open may not be worthwhile - from an advertising point of view - given the time in the UK when the games are played.

I think ITV will be happy with the French Open for the time being as it slots right after the IPL cricket. Be intresting to see if they bid for the US Open.

I recall one time at the French or Aussie that he rambled on about his bike ride into work for many tedious minutes and kept coming back to it again and again through the day. He has verbal diahorrea and rarely has anything of merit to add to what’s on-screen.

.....

Kudos to ITV for the highly visible promotional trails for this and the scheduled ITV1 coverage. The BBC hid this away like a dirty secret on the red button except for their slavish stalking of Andy Murray (and the finals) which they were more than happy to clear BBC1 or 2 schedules for. Even Nadal and Federer got short shrift from them with some of their matches going unscreened on the red button at both the French and Australian. I only wish they’d relinquished the French long before now.
