hardest to explain in what sense? He died, he came back, he died again, he came back again. Pretty straight forward.

So the usual Marvel backstory then.

Your average comic-book hero puts Lazarus to
shame.

I've always thought Nick Fury should be really, really old.

And the Punisher. But he's died, came back as an angel, came back as the punisher, was chopped up into little peices, reassembled into some sort of Frankenstein's monster (Frankencastle to be exact) and then got better.

There was an explanation of Fury's apparent youth, he was injected with something called the "Infinity Formula".

It only ever 'looked' like he'd died... in the first instance the cold preserved his body, so he was kind of in hibernation, and in the second he faked his own death to go and work some black ops...

Yeah, but the first time, for all intents and purposes, he was dead. Over 50 years he was dead.

It was more of a comment on Bucky being hard to explain, he's followed the same pattern as pretty much every other comic book character in history, only with a bit more time inbetween revivals!

As has been said Fury has made numerous references to the fact he's an old man in a young mans body. Punishers age seems to fluctuate depending on the continuity. In the MAX series he was 60-odd, but 616 I'm not sure, probably the same reason most other characters have minimally aged over the last 50 years..
