Still charged £5 a month for V+?

I am helping my mum sort out my dad's estate and have been looking at their Virgin bills as they are all in his name.

There is a £5 a month charge for the V+ box. Was this not dropped a couple (or more!) of years back?

There is still a £5 charge for V+ if you are on less than TV XL.

When V+ first came out, there was a £10 charge if on TV XL and a £15 charge if on less. This was reduced to £0 and £5 respectively.

They have always been on TV XL.

Called CS and they say the charge should have been dropped in 2008 but just "umm'd and ahh'd" and said they didn't know how to handle it!

Roughly £240.

Very strange. As I said earlier, the TV XL charge was initially £10 and then it was waived.

TV XL V+ charge was NEVER £5.

Are you completely sure that they were never on a TV level less than XL?

Absolutely - it was always on TV XL. I set it up for them when I lived there and it was never changed.

They should refund the overpayment. They did for me when they charged me for a 2nd phone line for years after it was cancelled.
That said, winding up estates is not the sort of time you want to spend arguing over "a few quid". Especially as they would want to refund to the account that may well be closed for payments by time they get around to processing the refund. Demand an immediate refund if you have the heart for a fight, but I would probably just move on.

Any chance of posting an image of the bill?

How do I post an image?

Here is a copy of the section:

These charges are for the period: 11 June - 10 July

Bundle Charges

Loyalty Pack B B / Phone / T V B
T V Size: X L
V+ HD Monthly Fee
Broadband Size: M

Bundle Charges total £31.50

It was on the phone that they said the fee was £5

I will see if i can find some older paper bills when I am at the house on Saturday. When was the charge dropped?

The V+ Monthly Fee will be ZERO. You will have been wrongly told that it is £5. All bills with TV XL on still have this entry.

Wouldn't blame you for that. Of course, the old style bill which had some detail would have shown £0 against the V+ monthly fee entry for a TV XL customer.

Ok - I have had a look at the bills since March. The bundle charges (not including line rental):

Jan - £44.50

Feb - £44.50

Mar - £48.50 (assume this is when prices went up)

Apr - £31.50 with a "Credit for services removed - V+ HD Monthly fee and TV size XL (not sure why the XL part is included here as she is still on XL) - CR£14.95. This was after I called querying the charge.

Mar - £31.50 with a bill correction of CR£30

So it looks like they have reduced the package price by £14.95 a month after the guy admitted on the phone that the monthly bill should not have included the V+ charge.

It was at this point he said he did not know how to put it through for refunding the overpayment since the charge was abolished a few years ago. It's a hard enough time for my mum at the moment without having to worry about this crap!

Didn't it all depend on how you had it installed, I seem to remember if you were an early adopter it was free installation or a small amount but you paid a monthly charge. Then they changed it and you paid £150 installation but the monthly charge was dropped (unless you were on M+ or L).

They gave existing customers the chance of dropping the monthly charge by paying a one off charge of £100. Don't know if they then decided to drop the charge completely even if you didn't pay the £100.

Hi,

I've just checked my bill and it says the following:

Bundle Charges
Talk International
Talk Mobile
Talk 08
Talk Weekends TV Size: X L
1 Add Set Top Box(es)
V+ HD Monthly Fee
At Races
Broadband Size: M Bundle

Charges total £58.00

Line rental is on top of this.

I never asked for At Races (but presume it's free) and a couple of the other things were 'tickles' (Talk 08, Talk Mobile & Talk International).

Should there be a charge listed there for V+ HD Monthly fee then? I can't seem to find what this charge is, it won't let me break down the bill any further?

Can anyone help please?

Yes but although it is listed in my Package, it doesn't say whether I am being charged for it, just like At the Races isn't charged. That's why I was asking. I still don't know.

Have you ever had Size XL TV, this would be a good place to start?

Only partly, as I don't know if I am being charged for the V+ box in with my total package cost.

You are not being charge, the fee is £0.00.
