Hi, having finally decided to purchase a tablet, I have settled upon the Asus - with keyboard dock. I just wondered others thoughts on 3 of the models - I had decided on the Prime, then today, in store, I saw the TF300, which stated on the label is new - is this an upgrade to the Prime as I cant seem to find any differences in the spec. I have then since read about the Infinity, yet to be released - this appears to have a slightly better camera, better screen res and slightly faster processor - other than this i see no difference. So now I must decide, what do you guys think?
Important to me, is being able to use it in the garden - so less glare from all the British sun would be great! Would the screen res make a difference to this? And do you think the processor would make a difference? (1.6 on infinity compared to 1.3) The camera upgrade is not important to me, neither is 3G as i intend to use at home and work via wireless. Any comments/reviews etc would be gratefully received - thank you :-)

No Tablet will be great outdoors in the sun so that is something to bare in mind.

Will do thanks, I have just found a review that mentions IPS+ (supposedly better for viewing in sunlight) although I guess, as you say no tablets will be great - but then looking at the upcoming forecast, there is no sun!!

IPS will give you a better screen but it's more about colour and viewing angles than seeing it outside. I know what you meanabout the weather - I am off to Blackpool tomorrow and it's not looking so good!

Wish I could be more decisive - having now further researched - I'm thinking I may be better off with a Windows 7 tablet - so, over to the Acer website!

Ok, thank you - as you may see above, I haven't really got a clue what I want!! The Operating System wasn't something I'd taken into consideration, until now! Enjoy Blackpool, fingers crossed for sunshine

I'm currently on holiday in Florida, OH has the original Transformer and I have the Prime and can confirm that they are absolutely fine in the sun {not with sun directly on the screen mind - for that use a Kindle}

Both are brilliant pieces of kit. We use ours mainly for watching movies. reading books, surfing the net and [OH not me] Facebook.

The keyboard dock is a stroke of genius and I'm surprised other manufacturers don't offer them.

Thank you, sitting in the garden browsing the web - you tube in particular will be a main use, as will playing pointless games! Too many options out there - so confused!! Maybe I should start a thread of my uses and see which gets most votes - as am leaning towards an ipad now!

As an owner of the original TF101. It can't be matched
Forget windows for tablets stick with Android.
Why worry about using a tablet in the sun when the sun very rarely appears

The review of the asus models do seem very good - I have now decided to keep my laptop for work bits (microsoft office) so yes, maybe Android it is, and get a tablet for play! I have posted my usages in another post - soo much choice!

The Transformer Prime must works outside very well. Supposedly its amazing Super IPS+ mode gives out 600 NITS!

The new iPad is a compromise for high resolution so if you find any real non marketing data you will soon realise it does not compare.
The best you can really say is that the mythical iPad is not totally useless in direct sunlight. Though the new one may in fact be worse.

If your looking for brightest screen with nice use of materials then it has to be the Prime Tf201. If your on a little bit more of a budget and can settle for anless bright screen than go for the TF300.

Wht you have to bear in mind is that the TF300 is less brighter than the Prime but it is still as good if not better than other offering on the market.

And Can I just add the dock is superb for prolonged surfing and writing data in forms etc. The soft on screen keyboard on all tablets are ok, but when trying to write something long, they become wearisome.

Also Asus are excellent at updating too newer versions of the Android OS, something worth considering as a lot of Acer, Samsung and Motorola owners are still waiting for an update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

Windows 7 really isn't meant for tablets, and every Win7 tablet review I've seen has commented on how they suffer from two things that tablets really should *not* suffer from:

1) Big & bulky.

2) Crappy battery life.

If I remember with the infinity, if you get the 3G version then you don't get the quad core CPU.

Yeah I think they use a Qualcomm chip for the 3G Infinifty and a Tegra 3 for the Infinity Wifi version. A bit confusing but I guess they get the best of both solutions.

If your going to be spending big, which the Transformers essentially are, wait for the Windows 8 equivalents. Then even if you hate tablets you're still left with a decent laptop. ASUS are miles ahead of the tablet competition.

Well if you are considering them check the CPU as if it is ARM you only get the touch interface, if its Intel you get the full desktop just like always (as well as the touch).

Metro on ARM is suitably crippled so it will depend on the Wintel premium.

I am not holding my breath with regard to Windows RT (ARM edition) as it only supports applications supplied with the device or purchased through windows store which are going metro only. There is no x86/64 support at all and the device is going pretty much locked down via secure boot at BIOS level.

ARM vs, Android (other than the prime Android tablets are mainly the cheap[er] option)

Intel vs. iPad (high resolution & quality panel, keyboard docks, design & material)

All the leaked pricing indications currently show any flavor of Win 8 tablet still coming in considerably higher in cost to the equivalent Android solution.

Price points of £450 and above is what industry analysts are predicting for a simple ten inch Win 8 slab.

To the OP get you Android Tab now, enjoy it and wait a year or so before you decide weather you want to go Win8, prices will be cheaper than as well.
