I notice that the CP Store doesn't seem to have any of the new apps?
Are they only accessible in the RP Store?

I read on another forum they do have different app stores. Its probably version controlled.

I'd say the stores are not live, they present a certain snapshot of a state of the OS, keeping them up to date is additional work, that only makes sense if they want to test the deployment/upgrade process.

I see nothing wrong in Windows 8. Aero was just 'hot air' anyway though Windows 8 Metro for tablets is obviously pretending to be Windows 8.

Standard 8 and Metro are essentially two different operating systems but am sure people will be suitably fooled.

Has anyone been checking out all the PCs/tablets/laptops etc coming out of Computex.

OEMs are definitely buying into the hybrid tablet/laptop dream.

Got home last night and installed 8 on a laptop, very happy with it.

Looking at Computex there are some pretty zooty machines coming along. Powerful ultrabooks at less than thr price of some ipads should cause some ripples. Looks like a lot of mainstream manufacturers are taking W8 very seriously. 2012/2013 should be exciting years for Windows and new portable technology.

I installed the RP onto my newest machine (i3 sandybridge, Z68 motherboard), and was quite impressed that it needed no additional drivers. Everything just worked.
I've now got the CP on one machine and the RP on another.

I quite like the Aero-lite theme it has, with transparent tops to windows, but it won't look as good if they get rid of the transparency for the release proper.
Not many changes from the CP, but it's useful to have labels on the app thumbnails, and the mousewheel scrolling now seems more consistant across the various apps.

I can't work out "trusting the computer". Can't work out if it's a bug or whether I'm not doing something correctly?
It says that to share various settings you have to "trust this computer", and it takes you through various steps including logging in with your Windows ID, but whenever you click to 'Confirm', it says you have to do it from your Trusted Computer. But it doesn't seem to trust any of my computers.

Dont you choose a method to trust computers through? ie trust using your mobile number or email address.

I got emails and SMSs when I installed RP and used my WindowsID for log on.

They have my email address and mobile No. etc, but when I click 'confirm' against any of them it says it has sent details to my known address. But I've never received any emails or texts.
I'll look again to see if the details they have are correct. But they're bound to have my email as it's my Live ID.

When I installed the RP (and logged in with ID) it automatically set up the email and people app, and gave me the same desktop wallpaper and user avatar as the CP comp, so I must be synced up in some way I suppose?
But it was still asking me to "trust" the computer.

I thought SMS was only for emergency password reset or proof of ID?

Perhaps someone else. I almost never provide my mobile number.

If you log in to windows live, you can get it to send another email for you to confirm with. I had to do that.

Thanks, I seem to have it sorted now.

I noticed on the security page that one of my computers (Windows 7 one) didn't have a red exclamation mark against it, but everything else did, including my alternative email address and phone number.
I logged into Windows Live on this computer and it finally allowed me to confirm my other computers and details. So I'm now free of those red exclamation marks.

I went through the same procedure, on that same computer, when the CP came out, but it hadn't worked then, so they must have ironed out some bugs since.
Either that or it had to be done using IE, which I don't normally use, but did this time.
