Sweden vs Germany Euro 1992 - Espn Classic
I was watching this game, bit before my time I was only started watching football in 1994.
But it was a great game and joy to watch and I can't believe how strong some of sides were back then. Here were the sides Sweden: Thomas Ravelli - Joachim Björklund, Jan Eriksson, Roger Ljung, Roland Nilsson - Klas Ingesson, Joakim Nilsson, Jonas Thern - Kennet Andersson, Tomas Brolin, Martin Dahlin Germany Bodo Illgner - Andreas Brehme, Guido Buchwald, Thomas Helmer, Jürgen Kohler, Stefan Reuter - Stefan Effenberg, Thomas Häßler, Matthias Sammer - Jürgen Klinsmann, Karl-Heinz Riedle The game was great to watch, end to end with lots of great players. I can't believe how strong Sweden were in those days! I mean thats fantastic line up. If they were playing against England, England would potentially looking at a defeat. Even Germany didn't have Lothar Matthaus and Rudi Voller couldn't get into the first XI. IMO these two would be amongst the favourites if they were around now at peak. Just thought that game was really good and amazed that a country of only 8 million people could produce such a great team. Shame Sweden have gone downhill a lot since, even that German squad was stronger than it is now. |
