Only 2 days to go until the new series premiere in the states - after a wait of only 21 years!

Dallas is set to launch "late summer" on Channel 5. I think they are waiting until after the Olympics to maximise ratings.

Most likely. The return of Dallas is undoubtedly one of the big arrivals on TV this year, if not the biggest. It would therefore be stupid for C5 to launch it against the Olympics.

I am really looking forward to this, I hope it works, I remember watching this with my mum when I was a kid, it was a must see hour. I remember being allowed to stay up late and sit on the sofa with my mum & watch, ah the memories....

Channel 5 have picked some good series in the past couple of years, unfortunately they're not very reliable, showoing the second series or even taking off a series part way through.
Anyone been watching the repeats of the original series on CBS drama? |

We've been watching the whole series on DVD in preparation for the new series. I can't wait. I'm very excited. I'm looking forward to seeing Sue-Ellen and how she has changed and seeing the boys and how they've followed in their Daddy's footsteps

It all depends on if Dallas is successful I guess.
It’ll be interesting to see if this re-boot works. In the last few years we’ve seen that some reboots fail tremendously (Charlie’s Angles) and some become ratings hits (Hawaii Five-0), but this is the first one, that I can think of, that isn’t a ‘remake’ so to speak, more of a continuation. What’s also interesting is that Dallas is on TNT, so basic cable, so the ratings expectations will be different to a network show. |

Dallas: newly revamped show splits US TV critics
"Channel Five will screen the 10-part series in the UK in September." Difficult to assess from one episode. Many series that later turn out to be good are mediocre to poor at the start. |

I doubt it as the main kingpin actor, John Forsythe who played Blake Carrington, died a few years ago, so I think it would be hard to try and find someone to play the main character, unlike with Dallas whose main lead actor, Larry Hagman, who played JR Ewing is still alive!!

Unlike Hawaii Five O where you currently have new actors playing the old characters, but rather well I might add. |

Larry Hagman really is remarkable to still be going at 80, watched new Dallas last night and he looked terrible at times as if he was on his last legs but i have seen photos of him recently and he looks a lot better. I suppose drinking between 4 to 5 bottles of champagne a day, leading to his liver transplant to add alongside all the Drugs he use to take in his younger days were always going to take there toll on him one day.
I actually quite enjoyed last nights double episode, yes it was different to the original but it was never going to be the same really and i think it was best summed up by the Los Angeles times that says its edgier and more explicit than the original. The new Dallas is more racier and sexier than it was in the 80's but it still has the hall marks of classic Dallas with Backstabbing and unbelievable twists that you don't see coming and at the end of the show it made me want to watch the next episode as it poses more questions than answers. If you want a carbon copy of the old Dallas don't watch it as it set more like a soap and the 'family feeling' the show had to me wasn't there as there was not the big fuss made about family dinners and breakfasts like in the original and there was no pool fights or lounging around the pool and although at Southfork the way the episodes were filmed to me it didn't feel like it was the same ranch. Larry Hagman was without doubt the star as he was a class above everyone else and he is still the nasty, conniving and deceitful so and so he always was. John Ross is just as bad as his Father and is obsessed by money and power. Christopher is the new Bobby, and Bobby is now turning into the Jock figure, however Linda Gray was really under used. The new Dallas has it's pro's and Con's but i think it has the potential to be a success all though i don't think it will last 13 years like the old one. |

Could only manage the first episode ....
Bloody terrible!! I predict big premier viewer numbers, but as the weeks go by they will spiral downwards. The storylines were so unbelievable .. |

Dunno bout this, think the John Ross character lacks charisma, JR's scene at the end of the 1st episode outshone the others;]
