PDF's and saving them to ipad

For part of my work I am required to use alot of PDF's for reference material.
I no I will have to get a PDF reader for the ipad and send them via my hotmail. To save them so they pop up straight away. How would I do this?

iBooks can do this without the need to use a third party app or having to email them

The Mail app can read PDF files sent as email attachments.

The iBooks app can also read PDF files. You can send them to it from within the Mail app (select a PDF attachment, open in iBooks), or add them to iBooks via an iTunes sync.

More info here: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT4227

EDIT: Ah, beaten to it!

I use Good Reader for reading PDFs on my iPad. It is easier to manage files and has some useful features like support for accessing remote servers over a network.

As another alternative you can actually get the proper Adobe Reader software for the iPad which is also free.
