PS3 (Phat) Bluray Replacement

Does anyone know site/s with a really good guide to replacing the Playstation 3 (phat (40GB) model) Bluray drive? Ideally would be good to have a good quality HD youtube video too as its always best to be able to see exactly how it is done too.

It is important that I also find out how to actually open the console too as the most i have done before is swap the internal HDD (which doesn't actually involve opening it up).

Also where is the best place to buy the replacement Bluray drive? eBay seems to have loads but often with little information on which model it is from/for or any indication of the use it has had (little point replacing it with one that could be about to go).

Any advice appreciated.

I did this a year or so ago, but couldn't realign the loading arms in the new mech so it wouldn't eject discs.Had to send to PS pros to complete the fix.

If you still want to try it my advice would be to find your PS3 model number from the box or system info, then it's easy enough to check what component numberyou need online.

ebay was the cheapest source I found, although the seller I used is not listed now.

I used vids on youtube to open up the PS3 and do the work -Loads on there to choose from.

It's worth paying attention to what people say about cross threading the casing screws though. As long as you have the right size screwdrivers and are careful it should be fine.

Is a good opportunity to clean out any dust too.

Also it shouldn't be an issue, but if you don't have PS+ you may want to back up your saves or entire hdd contents prior to starting.

Got mine from Consolepart4U can,t recommend them highly enough, just search for the model number of your machine and pick the item you need. I ordered the complete assembly so all I had to do was remove a couple of flat ribbon cables and screws and voila. Instructions came in the box but if you get stuck theres plenty on Youtube.

P.S make sure you buy the Torx10 as you will need this to open the 1st screw. Hope this info helps
