Are we assuming that the 7m that watch Eastenders are a different 7m that watch Coronation Street then?

Personally I love seeing Scotland do badly at sporting events. During such times, I always become fiercely anti-Scottish.

But only because of their media.

The TV schedules are already set and covering the footie whether England are in or out - so there is no point in wishing them ill - it's easy enough to avoid.

To think that this would still be happening if England hadn't even qualified is just ridiculous imo.
The tv schedule is in place long before the tournament starts, and remains the same whatever England do.

We get such tournaments every two years, yet you get those lousy soaps virtually every day.

Those of us who hate soaps dont watch them. You're allowed to do the same with football.

Exactly. Sick of this attitude. Why are soaps deemed more important than an international sporting event? The majority of the time football is on Sky, football fans rarely get to see football on bbc/itv. It's the same as when people used to complain that Neighbours got moved for Wimbledon.

And those calling the England fans and indeed the players are just misinformed. The fans have behaved superbly and to call the players chavs is laughable. Theo Walcott in his interview was well spoken and polite. Many of them are.

It's because people think they 'own' the airwaves and that television should cater only for them. Whenever it doesn't, there's shock and outrage. Hollow, vacuous, selfish people.

Don't worry soap fans, the sports will be over in a month or two. Then you can enjoy your cliche ridden make believe crap once again in its regular time slot.
All hail Eastenders and Coronation Street, and their legion of dullard fans. The soaps are so realistic they ought to be set on the moon.

I've been impressed by how well the players have spoken, and it certainly belies the image of chavs.

Oxlade Chamberlain spoke extremely well, and was very relaxed in his interviews, which is a great credit for someone so young suddenly stuck in the media spotlight.

After Tuesday the group games are over anyway, then there's only a handful of games left.

They all get tarred with the same brush which is a shame. Oxlade Chamberlain has a mature head it seems, very impressive.

In fairness how crap would 'reality' soaps be?

'Alright Dave?'

'Yeh'

Is you 'argument', that even if England won the whole thing, it probably won't cure cancer, the recession, or solve the problems in Syria?

Unfortunately, people would still watch it. You could argue that Big Brother was just a realistic soap and that used to have millions of dribbling imbeciles watching at a time.

This thread quite obviously started elsewhere judging by the contributors. It is piss poor that it is being moved to this forum as it is quite clearly targeted as a hit for those who do not give a toss about the games.

Its no surprise that those of us who predominate in here have criticised and to me its better to let it drop to the bottom of the forum, after all, if you don't like football, what are you doing here?

No.
Cos what you do or don't want makes absolutely no difference to what happens on the pitch!

The thing I don't get about the soaps is that the newspapers (and this website) are full of stories about what is going to happen in the coming week's episodes. Why bother watching? At least in the football and other sports, it's live, unscripted and anything could happen. That's what I call drama.

Dear Mods,

Football threads made in other forums by, and with contributions from, people who have no knowledge or interest in football, should not automatically be moved into the football forum (a place supposed to be for football fans) simply because it mentions football.

It does not promote intelligent debate or add anything in terms of discussion.

Lots of love

I'm going to make a thread here saying that Big Brother's for weird shut-ins. When it's moved there, the people who actually like the show will have to put up with my ill-educated rant about something they enjoy and are enthusiastic about, while I continue in ignorant bliss.
