iNTERNET cONNECTION PROBLEM
I am after some advice not criticism.
I was asked by a friend to come a sort his computer out. He had two problems. The fist was it was slow so I ran C Cleaner, Disk Defragmenter which made a difference to the performance The other was unable to access any pages on the internet. There was a stable internet connection and the orange light was active on the NIC (telling me it was working). I ran the Macafee Internet Security site and left it running until it finished. I had to go but I got a message to say that the scan had finished and the PC was much faster and I can navigate to various web pages Does this suggest to me that it was a virus blocking the user from accessing web pages until I ran the Anti Virus? |

Lights on the network card does not mean its got a stable internet connection. You realy need to be accessing the router via a browser page and checking tha figures there. Or plug another PC into the router. |

the other PC was ok? as well as the original one you thought had problems?I still would run them over the weekend, and also you should be keeping a eye on the internet connection via the router browser. If you loose access have a look at the figures on the modem\router. |

What does orange light and green light on NIC Card mean anyway as I was told that orange light mean the card was working and green meant that that was going through or am I wrong
Ok sorry they mean speed? or connectivity? I checked the Internet on a laptop (MacBook) via wireless and it worked and also via Ethernet Both worked correctly |

Ok wasn't wanting this to be a full blown discussion .
1. No problems with NIC Card in Device Manager (no red lights, just orange and then some green) 2. All lights were on on Router. 3. Internet access (wired and wireless) could be established on Mac Book 4.Updated drivers on NIC to latest 5. After running MCafee Anti Virus the user was able to get to various pages on the Internet. |
