trying to copy exe from disc but getting read only

i have brought a fault finder from ebay for my car and the seller sent me an installtion disc and first instruction is copy the contents of the disc to a folder on my desktop and the error im getting is

files on this CD are read only. you can still copy new files to this writable cd, which will replace files already on this disc

is only points to the 2 exe files on there, i have googled this and tried right clicking and removing read only option for the file but still nothing, the seller on ebay is not repsonding

any ideas

thanks in advance

cds are read only.

but you don't need to write to the disk to copy the files to the desktop. just open the cd and drag the files already there to your desktop.

that makes no sense so to me so for now i'm going to assume you're doing it wrong.

open the cd window. press ctrl+a then ctrl+c. close the cd window and click in the middle of you desktop wallpaper.

press ctrl+v

Create a new folder on your desktop first, and drag the files on the CD into that folder.

Instead of dragging and dropping, you could Copy and Paste which some people find easier. Here's one way of doing that:
Go into Windows Explorer.
Navigate to the CD drive and the file you want to copy.
Right click on the file > Copy
Navigate to a hard disc and the place you want the file to be copied to.
Right click in the place you want the file to be copied to > Paste

The error message suggests that you're trying to copy the file onto a CD. Are you certain you're attempting to copy it to a hard disc or the desktop?

You might also have a couple of drive letters for you DVD (such as D: and E, may be your copying from one to another.

This is confusing everyone, because it really does sound like your doing what the error message says. Its the only time i've ever seen the error.

What is the CD exactly your trying to get working? It might be copy protected....?

Also, do any of the files on the CD copy?

OP it is possible that in clicking on one of the .exe files you are inadvertently trying to run the program. Ensure that your mouse is not set to do that.

It could depend on what software and method was used to write the files to the CD. The CD may need to be finalized before it can be read on systems without the relevant software.

As flagpole said, try and download the software from elsewhere - just be aware that this kind of diagnostics software might not be freely available to download.

Isobuster might be useful. Don't know how functional the free download is.

Try straight extracting the exes from the CD at first.
