How does Panda Cloud differ?

Just reading annies thread about AV, and it got me thinking what exactly makes panda cloud a cloud service?

Is it only checking downloaded content server side? or does it actually send all your data on your pc server side to check on "the cloud"?

If it doesn't do either of these then does it just download definitions and the engine off the server, in which case how is it different to any other AV?

From there website:

Panda Cloud Antivirus is based on Collective Intelligence, a system for detecting and disinfecting viruses and other threats that feeds off the knowledge shared by millions of users.

Thanks to it, the computers that are part of the Panda Community instantly share and benefit from all the information stored in the cloud.

The original Panda Cloud(without the fashionable cloud tag) was an Active X plug-in for IE.

I'm sure it took a good 10 hours to scan my laptop.

Take a look at the FAQ here: http://www.cloudantivirus.com/help/0..._en.htm#05.htm

This will explain the workings of Panda Cloud AV, a bit more.

I do wonder how it works. I'm guessing it uploads hash codes of files/data? I also wonder if there is a bit P2P going on to compare hashes that are known safe.

Maybe if it doesn't do this i should patent it! hshit:

MSE has cloud technology called MAPS (as long as you have it turned on).
