When was the last time you sent anyone a self addressed envelope?
You used to have to do this all the time.

I went to W. H. Smiths the other day but they had no self addressed envelopes only blank ones!

When I drop off a repeat prescription request at the doctor's I attach a stamped SAE so they can send it back to me.
I've tried the collection service at the chemist and they were awful, so went back to collecting my own. |

I send out about 15 a week when I write to fostering agencies and local authorities for references and checks on prospective foster carers and adoptive parents.
It's a matter of courtesy - the information is for my department's benefit so it's only right that we pay for it to be posted back to us. |

Not since my autograph hunting days... must be about 20 years now!
Incidentally, I thought the 'S' in SAE stood for Stamped? |

Wasn't it "stamped self addressed envelope"? Last time I used them was a few years back when my football team season ticket was still a book of numbered vouchers and you applied for tickets for away matches by sending in the appropriate voucher and payment along with a stamped self addressed envelope which the club used to post out the ticket to you.

This is the freakiest thing ever. I was thinking of sending one today for the first time! I really want to send some fan mail to my favourite comedienne (Miranda) and it says on the website that I needed to send a SAE, I didn't even know what it was!

Last week, enterin a 10 mile run in spetember - they send your number back to you.
It's pretty common for most runs which aren't the major city ones. |

I did use them for the doctor's, although now stamps are so expensive, i'm not adding 60p or more to the already rip-off prescription charge, so will be collecting my repeats in future.

I send them regularly at work.
Outside of work I sent one a couple of months ago with a submission of a novel I've written. Sadly it got sent back to me in my nice SAE with a rejection letter
