"Doctor Who" article in the New Yorker

The June 4 & 11 issue of the famous magazine has an article
in its TV section about DW by Emily Nussbaum.

Some quotes:

Quote:
"Doctor Who is also quite funny, as well as playful
about its own conceit...Perhaps the most endearing...quality
of the new "Doctor Who" is its optimism. Despite having lived
for centuries, Doctor Who is an enthusiast, not a cynic...
although he's literally been there and done that, Smith's Who
is a Tigger of high spirits, a characterization nicely shaded
by moments of darker self-questioning
.

When the author says "Doctor Who" is he referring to the television show or the main character?

Apart from the obvious faux pas stated above, I thought it was an excellent review. Nice that Lis got a mention.

Thanks for posting it, Resident's fan and CHJ.

cheers

The other faux pas is calling it a reboot when it clearly isn't.

Would be kind of funny if the Doctor was a cynic though.
Next regeneration - Victor Meldrew.

I find myself in disagreement on some of her basic points, especially that she considers the dreaded "arc" to be the show's main strength, whereas to me it's what I like least.
