Clive Barker does weird stuff, must google him and find more stuff ( already seen Book of blood and that was weird too)
His books are even weirder than the films. The Books of Blood are worth getting if you haven't read him before.

War Horse

Good sfx, err that was about it. The story was ludicrous and saccharine drenched. Disappointing.

3/10

"They say it's the last song, They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song, If we let it be."

(Thats pretty funny how that came about in the thread actually! )

I agree. I've only stopped watching one film properly. That was Corky Romano.
When I watch a film I like to sit down on my reclining chair with the curtains closed and have a good few hours relaxing and watching films.
With Corky Romano though I gave up but still watched the end whilst working at my computer.

Plus I loved Kick Ass and I actually quite liked Hanna

I see what you mean and i hardly ever leave a movie halfway because i always want to know how it will progress and end, but for me this movie really was unbearable! I couldnt care less what would happen so turned it off. It was a 2 hour movie aswell and gave up after the first hour!

E.T. The Exta-Terrestrial.

I first saw it in 1982 (on a pirate video at school) and the last five minutes still chokes me up.

Barneys Version 9/10
This movie is so good. It's the second really good Paul Giamatti movie I'e watched recently (the other was Win Win). I cannot recommend this movie enough, it's a black comedy for a good portion and then heart breakingly sad, I actually cried, first time I've cried in a film in ages. The acting was spectacular, and an unusual quirky story.

I completely disagree.

If a film isn't good enough to grab me in the first 10 or so minutes - never mind half way through - I'm certainly not going to waste another 60-120 minutes to find out that I was right all along. I've very rarely liked a film that I thought was crud in the first 15 minutes, when I have managed to watch it through to the end. There are far too many good films to watch, there's no need to try to make yourself like something that's badly made or simply rubbish.

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo(original) - 8.5/10 - I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had absolutely no idea of the plot beyond the two of them investigating a murder. Wasn't expecting the brutal, although not too graphic, rape and torture themes. What an interesting character Lisbet was.

Anatomy of a Murder (1959) James Stewart - 7.5/10 - a cracking court room drama for a wet Saturday afternoon. For a 1959 James Stewart movie it was surprisingly gritty content. Although at the end I couldn't quite work out if the defendant and his wife had pulled a fast one or not to get him off or whether James Stewart's lawyer character cared one way or the other.

I just watched the HD version but it was stunning on the LG 50 inch Plasma.

SFX may look dated but it's still a fantastic film

Watched Bridesmaids -entertaining enough but I didn't find it as funny as the hype led me to believe (6/10).

Also watched Perfume: The Story Of A Murderer - visually stunning, great characters and really enjoyed it (9/10)

I sort of agree. After all, the opening of a film is pretty important in creating a sense of what it's about, and you can usually tell within the first few minutes whether the director is really in charge and has an overall control that will make the film into something you'll enjoy.

It's a bit different though when it comes to films with a good reputation. It's sometimes worth hanging in there and finding a film surprises you.

The write up on the epg described it as "distubring" when I hopped onto the start of it last night.

I was inclined to agree when I saw the blood soaked baby lying amongst the fish guts, maggots and rats.

The Madness Of King George

First time I've seen this and I enjoyed it up to a point. I hoped it would stick a little more to historical facts, so that was slightly disappointing, and the normally reliable Ian Holm was hammier than a pork pie factory, which dampened the experience slightly.

6/10

I only caught the last 20 minutes or so of Perfume : The Story Of A Murderer, but I found it to be visually stunning and mesmerising, although somewhat disturbing - it stayed in my mind for ages after.

It reminded me very much of something that Ken Russell or Peter Greenaway might create.

For at least the part that I saw 8/10

Girl with a Dragon Tattoo was too brutal for me, although I was gripped at the violent scenes, I had to step away from the film!
