The cover is misleading, yes, but I think the majority of people just can't be bothered to wait for the original to be released. The same happened with Taio Cruz's Dynamite I think. Songs get released way before the UK in other countries. What do record labels expect to happen?

I'm sure the original will do well but I can't see that many people rebuying it. I imagine most would wait the extra week and make do with the cover version until they buy the proper album which will contain the original.

Why can't these people who are so desperate to have the song, use youtube converter instead of downloading a shitty cover?

I just can't believe so many people are willing to pay for a bad fake when they could easily obtain the proper version for free.

Not that I'm advocating piracy, but it's hardly difficult...

that is a good point and like the op originally suggested they maybe should have taken action. the song will still do really well, but i do think some sales have been lost to the cover version.

Do the "PRECISION TUNES" people have an agreement with Maroon 5 like the former has to pay a fee for the latter. That fee could be the money for the rights to sing the song and also the money must be a large amount to please Maroon 5 enough to not bring the release date forward. Also have you seen this cover versions artwork, it is astonishingly poor quality and looks like something compiled together on Paint.

Wouldn't mind so much but where do they get these "singers" for the cover versions?! They sound brutal. There's a cover album of current chart hits available on iTunes at the moment and and it sounds like a bad karaoke night down the local pub.

I do find it hard to have sympathy for the people who downloaded the wrong one by mistake. It clearly has the word Tribute in the title. Can people not read?

Just like the use of any copyrighted material, you need permission to reproduce it. This 'tribute band' will have sought permission to sell a cover of the song and Maroon 5 will be getting royalties from the sales. It might actually work in their favour since those who bought the cover might then go onto buying their own version which means double the royalties they would have got.

Same here, I'm not entirely sure how anyone could be fooled into buying an obviously fake version of a song. Other than the fact iTunes allows you to listen to a PREVIEW of the song, the artist section lists "Precision Tunes" instead of "Maroon 5". Surely people should be able to join the dots?!

Exactly. It's not even a new thing either. These 'cover' versions have been around for years now.
