It's been done to death but - PRS IMO is doing nothing but damaging local radio with its pursuit of small businesses. Radio stations pay them handsomely to transmit, so it's nothing but (very damaging) greed.

In Ashington, Northumberland I've heard Radio 2, Metro and Absolute played quite often.

Some places play the local community station Ultra. (well, they did, it's finished now)

Mostly City, then Juice, occasionally Heart. Never the nationals!

Since I posted this a year ago everyone seams to have stopped using the radio - it's now Ipods and "Musak" nearly everywhere. The odd store with the PRS sticker in the window is nearly always on BBC 6 Music or BBC Radio Nottingham now.

My dentist plays Radio Two, The Stork pub in Birkenhead plays Magic 1548. Some shop in town today was blasting Kola 99.9 out the front door, clearly aimed at drowning out the Socialist support guy outside. I chuckled as he was drowned out by Casey Kasem.

Have you asked said shop if there have PRS licences, thus allowing them to play them in public...

Taxi drivers in this area - mainly Magic. Occasionally tuned to 5 Live or Radio 2.

The thread is perhaps a cunning plot by the PRS to rip off more people and save having to pay commission to their own chuggers or utility meter readers!

Mostly boring commercial stations, although our local trade shop seems to have some dance music net station all the time which is a change.
