What you are suggesting is changing the aspect ratio of the original document which would be no more desirable than changing the aspect ratio of a movie to fit an entire 4:3 screen.
Documents can be formatted easily and if it's something simple like a word file then making wider rather than taller will not have a negative impact.

Making a film into 4:3 will have a negative impact as you lose parts of the film if you wish to fill the space properly.

Most websites work properly in 16:9 as they are setup for mainly being displayed on Desktop Monitors, TVs and Laptops with most if not all new ones sold are widescreen and a large amount of older ones are as well now.

So I can't see what makes 4:3 better in general usage other than being able to make a bigger keyboard...but as screens on tablets can be anywhere up to 13" now I can't really see it as a problem.

The iPad ratio and screen resolution at 1024 X 768 was fine in that it suited fatter fingers.
16:10 is maybe a better compromise choice even if it's tablet use is more limited by fat fingers.

An exact 1080p will better suit with lower power too. Reality has it that both the 2048x1536 new iPad and 1920×1080 1080p have drawbacks on portable devices.
Obviously no one will copy the power sapping resolution of the new iPad so it was a smart headline move by Apple.

Don't be too sure - my mobile (Sony Xpeira S) has a high resolution than the iPhone 4S - at first you don't notice it, then you realise you can read websites without constantly having to zoom in

Books and magazines utilize the 4:3 aspect ratio much better without the book and especially magazines having to be altered in any way.

Obviously. What makes you think I was endorsing doing that? Movies on the iPad will be smaller, as I have already said. In the example above books and magazines will be smaller on Android 16:9.

I never suggested that they didn't.

There is no commercially available 13" tablet that I know of. Besides, a tablet is meant for portability. The current largest sizes are ideal and anything beyond that the portability of the tablet comes into question.

All I have said is that for using the onscreen keyboard a 4:3 iPad screen is superior to the 16:9 Android tablet's keyboard. The same is the case for books and magazines when viewed in their unaltered and original aspect ratios. They will be bigger than on the 16:9 screen. The 16:9 screens are superior for watching movies and tv shows as the picture will be bigger than watching it on an iPad for the obvious reason.

I type a lot on my iPad and I wouldn't be able to do so as effectively on a 16:9 Android tablet. I do not see the option of attaching an external keyboard as desirable as you are defeating the purpose of a tablet, portability, at that point.

All you are saying is you like 4:3, which is an opinion, pretty much all replys have indicated to you it makes no discernable difference.

Books, Magazine are always altered from the original image. PDF use a fixed format which has already been said, it not optimal to use on a tablet. If you use an ebook format this makes the design fluid, meaning the item should display correctly in portrait or landscape irrespective of the size and aspect ratio used on your device.

The keyboard layout can be changed on Android if this is an issue for you as already stated. So if you choose to type in this way, you are bound to be able to find one that suits. I have no issues typing on 7/10 inch android tablets or an IPad that I have access to,

I prefer 16:10, very close to the golden ratio. Samsung Galaxy Tabs use this ratio
