Netflix
I want to go on line with my xbox 360 but have never attempted before, to get Netflix as advertised on TV quite heavily at the moment. Can I ask for tips on how to even start? I have wireless broadband from Orange. Any advice welome, thanks.

If you Xbox is already working with LIVE - then just follow the on-screen options - its all simple.

NB: You need an Xbox Live Gold membership to use Netflix on the 360 (in addition to a Netflix subscription).

I already have gold but i don't use netflix, but how utterly ridiculous that you have to have a gold membership to have the privilege to buy ANOTHER paid membership. Anybody should have access to it or gold members should get discount.

Why should Netflix give you a discount based on which platform you use?
It costs them the same whichever you use. |

Yup. I think it's a piss-take that you need Gold to be able to access Netflix & Lovefilm (which already have their own subscriptions), along with YouTube, 4oD, etc. It should be like with iPlayer: *everyone* not just Gold subscribers. I suppose MS does it to try and make Gold appear more attractive, so it's not just about paying for online gaming. Unfortunately, I think it makes MS look like a bunch of greedy bastards, given that you can use a PS3, Wii, or PC to play online for free, and watch various catch-up TV services & so on for free (not counting their own subscription being needed of course, e.g. Netflix). I also think it's a piss-take that the dashboard is littered with adverts, even for Gold subscribers. The PS3's XMB is nice and clean, and I pay nothing for that. Why is my 360 full of adverts, when I already pay MS for XBL Gold? Even videos have adverts at the start (try Halo Waypoint! ), while Bing searches have ads within them...

The BBC can not put iPlayer behind an additional subscription - so you do not need Gold.
My point is why should Netflix (or Lovefilm) give you a discount because you opted for an Xbox? I agree it is not fair to have to pay twice - but that is not they fault. However, pehaps they should be rolled into a LIVE subscriber as a bonus at a reduced rate - where MS subsidise the payment to Netflix. |

I know that's why iPlayer doesn't need Gold (much to MS' annoyance - it's why it took so long to appear, as MS was previously insistent on it being Gold only, which the BBC would not and could not allow).
But none of the others should need Gold either. I know its not the fault of Netflix etc. - the blame lies solely with MS. I agree that there's no reason for Netflix to give discounts. |

This isn't what i'm saying they should do, all services like this should be available to all xbox live members, not just the gold ones. |

But if they give a discount for Netflix, then Lovefilm will want one, then mlb.tv, then others.
I think the big issue is that for the basic LIVE subscription - you do not get a lot for you money so package should be offered. |
