That's how you're gonna defend Cheryl? You know very well I was talking about her 'singing'. But you know what? I just realized, if Cheryl can be a #1 artist without actually being able to carry a tune or sing live then I guess Gary wasn't so wrong to pick Frankie was he?

I wasn't defending Cheryl, I was criticising Gary as a mentor. Gary may be an award winning singer/songwriter, but he was, in my opinion, pretty useless on the X Factor. And he WAS wrong to put Frankie through, he was one of the worst contestants in the history of the show.

I have said on numerous occasions that I don't rate Cheryl as a singer.

That sounded really childish.

As for the success of Gary and Cheryl, congrats to both of them. While Cheryl isn't exactly an amazing singer she must be doing something right. I'm not a huge fan of Gary but I recognize he has a lot of talent.

I feel bad for Alexandra and Marcus though. Hopefully their careers pick up in the future but the entertainment industry can be cruel. You're on top one minute and yesterdays news the next.

Firstly, not surprised at Gary and Cheryl's chart positions. Both have had some exposure lately as well as being backed up with quite long-standing careers. Both are at the top of their game atm.

Gary a very talented musician who has the ability to undertake a huge task, such as writing an 'anthem' for a Royal event and producing an amazing pop concert that was beamed across the globe.

Cheryl sings competently but she is more than that. A fantastic stage performer and it helps to be extremely beautiful. She is driven and is handling her own PR very well.

Given the above it is very unfair to compare Alexandra and Marcus. They are both still at the beginning. Gary and Cheryl had to turn around their careers after a lull and a major faux pas. If Alexandra and Marcus have the same talent and determination who knows?

At least we know who Alexandra and Marcus are.

But oh well, hopefully Alex manages to pull through.
She's got more talent than Cheryl but definitely not more than Gary, he's an extremely talented musician, as was very evident in the documentary about the making of "Sing"

After their comeback, they picked up more younger fans.

Gaz is experiencing a career high right now. He's being called for solo performances left, right and center. His songs are doing well. He's looking gorgeous as hell. TT are also performing at the Olympics. I don't think u can compare Gary's success to these newbies. He's been around for a long time. He's got a lot of people behind him this time around because he went through some dark moments and fought his way back to the top.
totally agree with you, I'm glad to see people supporting Gary on here, it's normally really anti. I really admire him and he's lovely to his fans

I know he gets a lot of hate here for whatever reason. But I just love the guy. He's so incredibly talented and gorgeous but his humility is what I admire the most about him. And as you said, he always takes a lot of time taking pics and signing autographs for the fans. Its so awesome to see him get all these awards and recognition after everything he's been through. He really deserves it all.

His schedule is insane though. I wish he'd taken a longer break but I guess 2 days in Spain are enough for him. He's a workaholic. I think that's why he signed on to do The X factor again. The boys are enjoying their time off but Gaz can't sit idle. The man went on stage at 11:30pm at a charity event on thursday night before the Jubilee concert and he was at the Chris Moyles show on Friday morning at 6:30. Chris kept saying to him, I'm worried about you. He's very lucky his wife is so supportive. He was traveling all over the place recording Sing, signing acts for the concert while Dawn was at home pregnant with their 4th child. She looked so proud of him at the concert. He said he's already thinking about songs for the next TT album. He's crazy I tell ya. But I love him to death!

I didn't want him to do the show because he doesn't need it. He wasn't that great at it. He also looked like he didn't want to be there during some of the live shows. But it is what is. And now I have to watch this crappy show once again because he's on it. Gotta support him 100%.

I hope he'll be better on X Factor this time, he said he's going to be more relaxed and at least we get to see him on our screens for a few weeks which is a big bonus. Like you Gary being a judge is the only reason I watch X Factor. I love him as well

Me too. It was strange people were saying he was dull and has no personality last reason. The TT fans know how funny he is. He's very self deprecating and has a wonderful personality. It was amusing to read the comments on the video of his appearance on The Graham Norton Show with Will Smith. Lot of people were shocked about the fact that he had a personality and a sense of humor. I was like, every TT fan has known that since forever. He ain't the man we see on The X factor. I hope he gets to show his real self a lot more this year.

Well, that too. I was speaking of the chart positions in relation to the judges/ex judges and the contestants/ex contestants.

Seems if you want to have a successful record career be a judge not an act.

I know nothing about Tulisa's music so I can't say whether she can sing or not. Cheryl can't sing but apparently still sells music.

Gary has been successful for years. He had 13 #1 singles before he joined The X factor. So yeah, he doesn't need this crappy show to get a #1 single. I wish he had quit but he is a workaholic so he signed on again to keep himself busy. Nothing more, nothing less.

"She's also on course to score the highest opening sales for a single this year with track Call My Name, after scoring 79, 244 sales since it's release over the weekend - outselling the top five singles combined."

I don't get why she is so popular

The irony of Cheryl's Call My Name being the fastest selling No.1 of 2012 and her first protege Alexandra Burke Heartbreak on Hold sliding to 76 in the albums underlined today.

Promo, media , dull interviews, PR, money and more self serving promo. Popularity isn't the only factor.

Huh??

"Money" == are you implying she paid off people to buy her music or something? And all that promo and media she did? Clearly people must have liked what they saw since they went and spent their money on the single?

I mean, I know you're an expert in conjuring all kinds of creative fantasies explaining away certain artists' spectacular failures... but come off it...

Cheryl Cole, one of the biggest pop stars in the UK, has been out of the spotlight for a while, but demand for her has remained high throughout her hiatus, and it's no surprise, but welcome nonetheless, that she shot straight to #1. It's not hard to understand and doesn't require any of your special analyses.

Just come back from the Scherzinger thread that you told me so nicely to "get back to" I didn't know you'd become a mod overnight. "Must have liked her single" To actually like it it would have to be "good" But of course you're on expert on the pop stars in the uk seeing as you're in the us, the place that dumped Tweedy and sent back to the uk. Nice "Biggest Popstar" opinion, but it's just fantasy.
