Femtocells coming to O2
Following on from Suresignal and Homesignal from other networks, Telefonica (parent company of O2 UK) has signed a deal across Europe and South America to provide femtocells for all their networks. I wonder what they'll call it!
{Insertsomething}signal no doubt! http://voicendata.ciol.com/content/news1/112061910.asp http://www.alcatel-lucent.com/wps/po...cle_002661.xml They have chosen Alcatel Lucent as the provider, the same company that made the Vodafone Suresignal |

Why does o2 need these? They have the best coverage of any network in the universe! (and their customers are deliriously happy!)

O2 have offered this without promoting it since about 6 months after VF launched sure signal. My mum has had one since then, was given to her as a retention tool.

O2 have been providing Femocells in the UK for a while, just shortly after Vodafone introduced SureSignal. O2 use these as a retention tool where coverage has been confirmed as the primary reason for termination. |

Which is strange because a couple of friends of mine who work for O2 tried to find out information for me a while back and couldn't find a thing.
But I meant as more than simply a retention deal. Someone I know is having signal issues with O2 and could really do with something like this but is still a fair way into their contract, I know he'd be happy to pay whatever it took to get one (within some reason) but that's no good unless O2 start just selling them. |

I would imagine they will announce that customers can buy them soon.

You Phone them and say you want to leave due to lack of adequate signal at home. It's really not challenging.

Odd, as when I rang to terminate my o2 contract just before Christmas, they didn't offer anything, no a single retention, and I specifically quoted poor signal/reception as my reason for changing.
Had they offered one of these, I would have stayed |

As with the other femtocell offerings it's to boost basic telephone coverage for calls & texts. 3G is irrelevant as by definition to use this device you have an Internet connection & thus the availability of WiFi. I am amazed that only Vodafone are the only operator to actively promote & sell a femtocell to their customers. As with O2 any Three customer has to argue the toss very forcibly before they will deign to give you their Home Signal box which as I can personally confirm works really well.

As I get a constant H+ in the house and around most of the area I live, I take it I wouldn't gain anything from one of these?
O2 coverage here is excellent. |
