The longer the wait, the better the game.

![]() I liked GTA4, but some parts of it ("Hey Niko, its your cousin, let's go bowling!") annoyed the piss out of me, although apparently these were addressed with the DLCs. In all honestly I think I preferred San Andreas, just because the world you were in felt bigger and there was more progression between cities, instead of it being randomly opened up. |

When I thought of GTA 4 when It was announced I though wow. There going to expand on all those sub missions. Taxi, firefighter, etc and add loads and loads more. So yes i agree with the other poster GTA 4 on whole did not really take a step forward for the franchise. |

People tend to favour San Andreas because it was the biggest. That doesn't make it the best though. Vice City was easily the best game.
A lot of the criticisms that people have for GTA 4 were also present in San Andreas but they strangely get overlooked. Fair enough, you have to keep answering cousins and friends in GTA 4 who want to go bowling etc, but in San Andreas you had to run half way across the map to defend turf, you had to eat and workout and other trivial things. There were lots of fantastic features like the BMX, parachute and of course the jetpacks were great fun, but you also had to do a stupid amount of pilot licenses and utterly pointless tasks that seemed to be shoe horned in for the sake of a new feature. No, Vice City definitely had the best flow. Enough features to keep you entertained on a decent size map (for the time) and with a good story and fantastic general environment/soundtrack. A mix of Vice Ciy and San Andreas in GTA 5 and you'll have one hell of a game. |

the missions did seem like "drive to here, have a shoot out, come home" and side missions that consisted of going on a date, going to a show at the Russian club, "Hey cousin, let's go drinking!", the underlying storyline, if mostly bleak, of a Serbian immigrant starting a new life in America, and getting involved with nefarious characters, was brilliant. out of those shouty preachers outside the Bohan safehouse, getting them arrested and kidnapping them. Finding all the pigeons and stunt jumps, and generally assaulting/killing random pedestrians, for the comedy insults and death noises! Quote:
more realistic version of Liberty City I think if Rockstar had chosen to include brand new variations all the side missions and activities in GTA4 that were in San Andreas, it's likely they'd have delayed it further than it already had been. |

For me San Andreas will always be the best GTA release, mainly because of the amount of variety it offered i.e. Countryside, Venturas and numerous side missions.
I didn't enjoy GTA IV as much as I would have hoped, that game was far too serious in it's tone and delivery. |

It's a shame that devs now focus more on graphics than gameplay these days which was the case with GTA4.I liked the Episodes of Liberty City add-ons however, I think in general they were the games GTA4 should of been especially BoGT. |

Been plying a lot of GTA San Andreas on the 360 via B/C, it's such a fun game but in some ways it has aged quite badly (not talking about the gfx which are actually quite nice upscaled @ 1080p with a nice coat of 4xAA). The aiming and lock-on in particular is awkward to use, back then I didn't think twice about the controls but these days it really stands out.
I think most of all it highlights what a different direction they shot for for GTA IV, not necessarily for the worst as I prefer the realism of IV, I don't think there's any going back to the cartoonesque aesthetic now but I do hope they implement some of the features that made SA such a classic; great script writing and sense of humour, interesting missions, large and varied landscape, so many different vehicles and in general a mind boggling amount of content. Pretty such Rockstar won't let us down, I'm really looking forward to GTA V especially if they borrow some of the gunplay from Max Payne 3. Imagine that. |

half of GTA4 was pointless. if the sub games meant something to the game it would have been better, but after one darts game I'd had enough. yeah its stuff to do but i struggle with pointless gameplay

I just don't get why so much was removed that was in previous games, all the more fun side missions, bikes, they even removed the car customising aswell for some reason. I hope it's all back in 5.

GTA4 was mainly a showcase for the new graphics and gaming engine, and the awesome re-imagining of NYC as a new more realistic version of Liberty City. I think if Rockstar had chosen to include brand new variations all the side missions and activities in GTA4 that were in San Andreas, it's likely they'd have delayed it further than it already had been. |

GTA 5 has to have the ability to play music from the PS3 hard drive. That was a feature sorely missed in GTA 4.

Why re-invent the wheel? It's bad enough that they are rehashing Los Santos.
