Getting an HPI check done on a car

Hey all.

Sold my car recently and am looking to buy another one. Normally in the past I've bought cars from main dealerships, but this time I'm looking at one from a small independent dealer.

I thought it would be sensible to get an HPI check done on the car I'm interested in. A quick Google search revealed that many companies, including the RAC and AA, can provide the service for a price, usually around the twenty quid mark.

I wondered if anyone had any particular reccomendations of who to use for this? How long does it take - would you get it straight away or do you have to wait 24 hours or so?

Any feedback on the issue very welcome.

Why would you bother with a third party?

First result of Google search for "HPI" : https://www.hpi.co.uk/home/

Fair point, well made.

I just wondered if different companies charged differently for it, or if some were quicker than others etc.

I'm pretty sure that now any car trader big or small is legally obliged to provide you with a copy of the HPI printout and also offer 3 months warranty..

Of course it's only a minimal cost so for extra peace of mind there's no reason not to double check
