i did feel a bit of sympathy for her when MM played her
but i also felt sorry when MM question his mother love and broke down basically jean should have never went into the house and made him think she flushed his st christopher down the toilet, he was always gonna get her back jean should have never taken the money in the first place i predict lots of people will disagree with me |

I think it's rather sad that a lot of people seem to be attacking Jean because of her mental instability. The episode thread was peppered with people 'hating' Jean. I suspect most of those were the same immature people who used to 'hate' Heather before she wasn;t around to mock any more.
It's is a poor reflection on society that this 'pack' mentality appears from time to time on this forum. It's a most unattractive trait. Armchair bullies. |

. Michael is an evil cretin needs a good slappin' dooown . Michael doesn't deserve anybody's sympathy and is to blame for this whole mess, not Jean. Despite that, I am entertained by Michael and his character and hope he stays on the show for a while yet . But I hope justice is served. Jean should never have taken the money in the first place? She got conned by Michael remember. He's a master manipulator and liar. Sure, you could say Jean was naive or whatever in giving the money away, but at the end of the day she thought she was giving the money for a good cause and she thought Michael was her friend whom she could trust. Unfortunately, you get many cases like this in real life, where people are conned out of their life savings for false charitable causes that turn out to be confidence schemes. Jean isn't exactly alone here. Don't let the Micheal love blind you, woman ![]() .

![]() Genuinely a good episode. Best I've seen in a while. This is coming from someone who hasn't consistently enjoyed EE for a few years. Hopefully, the quality will continue .

. A sign of good writing when it evokes such strong emotions from the audience . I usually don't shout at the TV during EE episodes (well not since 2001 ), but this was the first time in a very long time where I was emotionally invested in a episode.

I think that scene was especially good because it flowed directly from the recent development of Cora's character, which seems to have blossomed since she teamed up with Dot. Hallelujah! |

I agree, jean is one of the few characters who doesn't actually annoy me in some way lol. Gillian is an amazing actress, definitely one of the best on the show! Although alfie is annoying me still wanting to be Michaels best man and siding with him after everythin, I hope he apologies to jean (and less importantly kat) when he discovers the truth!

I love her acting too but I hope they don't drag this out for much longer - it's not comfortable viewing the way Alfie and co are treating her.

I find Jean a really irritating character and wouldn't spend 5 minutes in her company in real life BUT the actress plays the part fantastically and this storyline has had me gripped. Obviously some characters are meant to draw you in, some make you angry and with Jean she's a complex and ever changing person because of her illness and for this she is soap gold.

Michael didn't choose to scam Jean because of her medical condition, but rather her stupidity. Say what you will, but Jean is not bright at all and very gullible - and that has nothing to do with her bi-polar. There are actually other people in the Square, present and past, who were similar to Jean in intelligence - Billy Mitchell, for example; Heather, Honey and Little Mo. What a lot of people object to is the fact that Jean is, like a lot of other characters in the programme at the moment, presenting herself as a victim, absconding responsibility for what she has done - which is to take money which didn't belong to her from someone who isn't just family, but her employer. Also, Jean was canny enough to begin manipulating MIchael in the beginning, and her aim was to get back at Janine by breaking the couple up. That is what was motivating Jean, but as soon as Michael learned she not only had money, but access to money, he flattered her and one-upped the manipulation. The manipulation has nothing at all to do with Jean's condition, but everything to do with her stupidity. She was flattered by the attention, and succumbed to his scam in an effort to get close to Michael. People also forget that Jean can also be very sly - sly enough to open other people's letters, sly enough to set Charlie up with an internet dating situation. I also don't like the way she is wantonly targeting Janine in all of this. Janine is a biatch, but Jean's daughter destroyed Janine's marriage, and at the moment, Janine is heavily pregnant, hormonal and probably going through the early stages of a premature labour. At this moment in time, yes, Michael is taking advantage of Jean's medical history to cover his tracks, but when this whole storyline started, it had absolutely nothing to do with Jean's bi-polar condition and everything to do with her gullibility. And for the record, I was always a massive fan of Heather, who - when she originally was featured on the show - could also be quite manipulative, if you remember the silly wedding competition storyline with Hazel Hobbs. |

Finally a storyline for Jean and one that is showing off her dramatic talents. I hope she comes out of this stronger and maybe the next storyline for her will involve some personal happiness.

Whatever, Gillian Wright is an incredible actress.
The scenes a year or two ago where she was 'squaring up' to Stacey in that two or three hander where Stacey got sectioned, told you all you needed to know about Wright's acting ability. Gillian Wright IS Jean - you see the character on screen, and to me, you don't think of her as being an 'actress' - you think of a real person. And that, to me, is consummate acting ability taken to the nth degree. Gillian Wright is probably the most professional 'actor' soap has to offer right now, and has had for a long, long time. She is truly amazing. |
