Anna Karenina Trailer

One of the greats of literature, let's see if justice can be done to Tolstoy's classic.

Yeah, this book hasn't really had a good adaptation done for it. Deserves better. Maybe this will be the one. One problem is that this is a long book, and a two and a bit hour film isn't likely to do it justice. Still, I do look forward to this one.

I want to read the book but I just don't think I can. I get really put off by long books (this one has a whopping 800 pages). I may give it a go though. I like the trailer

On of my fav books but i won't see this. And contrary to some popular opinion on DS i really do think Keira is a good actress, but by God she bears absolutely no resemblance to Tolstoi's Anna Karenina. I Know the director of this film has some sort of Keira fetish, but come on, this is taking the p**.

Says what you will about 97 adaptation, it is a weak film, but Sophie Marceau and Sean Bean were spot on in terms of casting, why Vronsky is basically a child with a mostache in this new film is beyond me.

i love Leo Tolstoy and although i haven't read the book, i know all about it and basically have the quotes, but i am NOT excited about it because i think to do justice to it is very very difficult, and with keira knightly as the star and im already feeling like its going to be disappointing.

I thought Dr Zhivago when I saw the trailer. It seems epic. Not sure if it's my cup of tea though.

It's been given good reviews (DS is the only 'bad' review i've seen actually, although in nearly every one, the length of the film is commented on).

Sorry, I haven't read many of the reviews, so maybe I'm getting the wrong end of the stick with the following. When they comment about the length, do they realise that the book it's adapted from is over 850 pages? 130 minutes isn't really what I'd call too long for this kind of film; if anything it seems too short. To be honest, the only way I really see this book being properly adapted is via thirteen one hour TV episodes.

Still, who knows, maybe Joe Wright has done wonders and pulled off the first time that this book has had a decent adaptation (the others have been fairly poor). Loved his Atonement adaptation and was OK with his Pride and Prejudice, but they're shorter books.

The casting for this film looks worrying...especially Keira Knightley as Anna - no resemblance whatsoever as she's quite a stale choice now, surely they'd want someone original to play Anna? Keira has done too many period dramas now.

It's out today. Received positive (and mediocre) reviews. But none too scathing.

For me, not epic enough.

And with a lot of it set in that theatre.....way to clever for it's own good....the Horse Race....

Matthew Macfadyen was the star...but not in it much.
Keira looked stunning, but Alicia Vikander, kitty, was better.

And Jude Law, looked lost most of the time.

5/10

Watched it this week, excellent story but casting Keira Knightley as Anna was a mistake, she has far too strong and wordlywise an image to be Anna, OK, they had to have a big star to bring in the audience but she was not Tolstoy's Anna! If they needed a big name Natalie Portman would have been better, she has the believable innocence and vulnerability.

This is one of my favourite novels of all time, but I have yet to see a good adaption of this novel. I don't expect a lot from this film, but am intending to see it anyway.

I loved the Hollywood version of "War and Peace" with Audrey Hepburn. I though it captured the spirit of the novel, although it left a lot of the story out (for obvious reasons).

Unfortunately, I cannot abide Keira 'acts the same in every film' Knightley.

It is one of my fave books.

A friend went to see this last Friday but ended up walking out after 20 minutes. She didn't get her money back but the manager let her and a colleague watch another film which was unfortunately 'almost' as bad. She should have known better the minute she saw the words Keira Knightley.

She's no Anna. Even the actress playing her sister in law would have been a better choice.
