At half-time I thought he was capable. He missed that header first half but the fact he had got into the position in the first place meant it was hardly the end of his night. It took all of two minutes for him to find the right position in the second and score.

If you thought they were playing poor that's fine, it's making premature threads before a game is even over and posting about the impending doom that never occurs that show people up as complete chancers lining up to get the digs in early.

I don't get people's definition of 'dreadful'.

Assuming that the same people are those who didn't give us much of a chance to get out of the group in the first place, why is every performance seemingly judged against such a high measurement?

It does seem this thread was created to get a dig in early.

As there are 16 countries in Euro 2012, and 15 won't win it, I'll make a prediction, we won't win the tournament, regardless of if Rooney plays or not.

And by the way I think our worst game was against France. We didn't win that game.

The French game we did play better than the other night, we looked like a solid unit, which we never look like when Rooney plays in the team.

I really dont understand why you people bought the Rooney hype, it's not as if he's earnt the worship he gets from the England fans.

He has scored 29 goals for England.

Before the stat comes out about he hasn't scored at a major tournament for 8 years, he was coming back from injury in 2006 and 2010, and in 2008 we didn't qualify.

But very few against top nations. I get a sense of realism has begun about Rooney. He is no Pele. He is a decent enough player who played quite well the other day , but he cannot change matches or dominate a game the way Ronaldo does for example.I would certainly prefer to play Ronnie Carroll against Italy , but we know this is not going to happen

He is the one and only star player at Man Utd.

So that excuses him from his poor performances at the last 2 World Cups does it ?

2010 his first touch completly deserted him , he was gone in the head for whatever reason.

Ummh , not quite. Man U have a host of star players. It would be interesting to see how many goals Rooney would score if he were playing for Aston Villa for example . Probably about 5 a season.

Did Wayne really pay £30,000 for that weave. He could have got a wig and some glue from a charity shop for a fiver and it would look better.

In reality they dont David , i know its hard to stomach but its true , look no further than Man City , thats what you call a host of star players.

5 - 10 years ago they did but not anymore , Rooney is their only genuine star player.

I would like to see Carroll and Roone start for Italy, and leave Welbeck out until late second half.

I'd have to agree, though they haven't half got a great team... I mean since 2006 only ONE team has done better than them in the league, that's Chelsea in 2009/10 season when they won the league by 1 point. Apart from that no one has scored more points them them.

Interesting stats in the Times today. These are percentages of England's 6 forward players, tackling or being tackled. or being dribbled past. Parker 69. Welbeck 46, Gerrard 61,Young 51,Milner 34, Rooney 0, repeat nought. He didn't tackle or go past any player. No , he is certainly not Pele.

You wonder how long Sir Alex will put up with this impostor that is Rooney who is somehow pretending to be a top-class footballer. His goal scoring record of a goal every other game for club and country these last few years really help add towards this Rooney 'myth'. Essentially a very average player who fools simpletons like Moyes, Eriksson, Capello, Hodgson and Ferguson but those of us in the know like david1955 and myself, THE Bomolad, have sussed out years ago.

Face it, nobody else is going to claim it in any event. It looks like a tufft of overgrown doormat someone has erroneously wiped their feet on after coming inside from the cold and the mud.

You must have missed my earlier post about his hair. Thirty grand for a wig eh? What a total prat the man is.

I am assuming that he will be given the goal of the tournament by the BBc after his brilliant goal the other night. After all he did get goal of the month once for a deflected shot

Oh, you've already used his hair for a pop? I gave you too much credit.

I'm sure you'll do me proud and come up with something even more tenuous as an excuse to criticise him, I believe in you.

I agree it does look a mess, especially when it's raining. Ultimately he's got a modern day comb over but the rain exposes it.

Am I right in saying they took the hair from th back of his head and transferred it to the top of his head?

I thought they used hair from the thighs, but not sure as I haven't explored the possibility of a weave. The thing is though , Rooney still has a big bald patch , it is only the front that seems to have been dealt with. When you look at some cricketers like Michael Vaughn or Shane Warne , they have had a very good weave , but Rooney looks like a complete idiot.

If we want any hope of beating Italy on sunday Rooney needs to be put back on the bench, he can come on in the second half if things aren't going well, if he starts we lose.
We have played the same in 3 games, the poorest was 20 mins in 2nd half against Sweden when we collapsed before wallcot came on. Rooney wasn't on the pitch then.

Rooney is capable of turning and winning a game at any time that is why he plays from the start.

Do you think you know better than every pundit and the England manager or is it just a personal dislike for Rooney as a player, the latter I would suggest. I don't give a monkeys about Rooney as a person or his personal life it's just what he does on the pitch and only he's capable of turning a game much more so than any other England player.
