Invasion of The Dinosaurs
Courtesy of Lovefilm, I watched all six episodes of this classic dating from 1973.
It was laughable in parts when the dinosaurs appeared, the effects were hilarious. But, that was the Doctor for you in those far off days. Jon Pertwee was the doctor then, and he was my own favourite too. The characters carried the story right through, and it turned out to be quite a story too. About a mad scientist attempting to reverse time in order to create a new golden age in which only a select few can survive. Of course, one of the highlights was being able to see the late Elizabeth Sladen as Sarah Jane who sadly died so young last year. She was lovely in this story, but there again, she always was. Might be worth buying on DVD. |

I watched it all the way through one night a few months back. I loved it. I'm not keen on the Pertwee era but this story was great fun.
I thought it felt more like a Tom Baker story, but that might be because of the 'Baker' era style opening credits and because of lovely Sarah Jane. I also thought the special effects were pretty good, considering all the awful comments I'd heard about it before hand. And the cliff hanger ending to episode 3 came completely out of the blue for me - brilliantly mad! |

This is one of the very best Pertwee stories, and I am so pleased it is being discovered by a new generation.
For years now, all that was said about it was "the dinosaurs are crap", and this was the received wisdom that was accepted and never questioned. That story is really good, it has enough action to last six episodes, the London stuff is very gritty and gloomy, etc etc etc, is only just being realised. I love this. |

i love how cute the dinosaurs are , which is so wrong for the story , but i can't help it . i used to think it would cost a shed load of money to use cgi but watching it again i was surprised just how little dinosaur action there is . So maybe ?

Malcolm Hulke is possibly THE most underrated Who writer.
A good story, let down by overly ambitious dinosaurs effects (even Barry Letts admitted his judgement failed him in thinking he could get away with this one - although the dinosaur models were not made by the BBC and were a disappointment). It was also a mistake to shoot models on video and then CSO them onto a film backdrop, which they learned from (hence why Robot and Seeds of Doom were made entirely on video). Brigadier seriously needed a haircut in Season 11 too. |

When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth was on TV today, a film from four years before Invasion of the Dinosaurs. They looked great for the time. Unfortunately, they had much more money and time to make them than Doctor Who ever had. |
