Just as well I missed this but to be honest I wouldn't of believed it anyway, the release date is far too soon, Nintendo would of surely announced it at E3 if it were to ship that soon.

This will probably get shown on Monday or Tuesday next week over here. I love Jimmy, he's hilarious, and love how he's such a Nintendo fan as well.

Digital Foundry have gone hands-on with the Wii-U <link>.

Obviously the specs are still a mystery but it's interesting to read about the performance analysis which seems pretty good, also the image in the gamepad screen is said to look very nice indeed, more importantly they touch upon the zero latency stream, which is gonna make all the difference to gameplay.

From reading some gamers opinions on the machine I think a lot of people are underestimating it, to a degree it's not their fault thanks to Nintendo's dire E3 presentation but it's bizarre to hear people writing it off before it's even out and before they've even played on one. A lot of people are only interested in graphics it seems, nothing's changed there then..

I've just discovered Nintendo's post-E3 Investor Q+A.
The whole thing's worth reading, but Iwata's answer to the last question reveals why Nintendo's E3 turned out the way it did.

Quote:
First, what we’ve shown at the E3 show are both the launch titles that will be released with Wii U hardware this holiday season and the launch window titles that will be released early next year or not long after the hardware launch. We do have ideas of what kind of software we will be releasing after those two periods, and Mr. Miyamoto as well as I are both directly involved in the development process. Those include both our traditional franchises and of course new propositions as well. However, because we are now in the era when similar proposals can be made by the others just one year after we introduced a brand-new hardware system proposal, please understand that we really can’t say much about what else we are planning.

Well that translates to around £300-330, so that is crazily overpriced if true. Count me out at that price I'm afraid.

Interesting tweet from Nintendo Gamer magazine got me thinking.

November 16th is Miyamoto's 60th Birthday.
What better way to celebrate it than a new console release?

It also ties in nicely with the November 18th rumour that has been doing the rounds.

£300 RRP sounds about right to me.

I can't recall any Nintendo console ever coming in at that sort of price. It might be right, it might be wrong, but if it does retail at that price then it sits outside of my allotted budget for a new console.

I would think the Wii U won't be any more than £250 but I'm hoping it'll be more around the £220 mark. I honestly don't see it retailing for the £300, though crazier things have happened I guess.

Pretty much my thoughts too. I remember buying the N64 for £250, only for Nintendo to drop the bugger to £150 a month later after some not too stellar sales. It certainly perked things up and was the right thing to do from a business perspective, but boy it pissed me off! They handed out some sort of recompense to early adopters, like a free game or something, but even though I wrote to them I never got anything.

I'm hoping around the £200 mark personally.

I think it'll be about £225-250, and I don't think they can afford to go much over that. I did see a Nintendo exec saying that they learnt a lot from the 3DS launch (IE. it's better to sell at a discount and make a small loss but shift a lot of units, than to sell at a premium, make money but have low sales). So that implies it's going to be competetively priced, I am sick of waiting for this price announcement though....Spit it out Nintendo!!!

A month before the next batch of info hits, I guess.
We're due a new Nintendo Direct at the end of August.
