Different local news services in different rooms!

I live in East Kent so my local news channel is southeast today. This I get on the 2 TVs downstairs, but on the first floor bedroom TV I get Look East - Norfolk etc. Anyone explain why?

Do you have two TV Aerials pointing at two different Transmitters? This could be the reason

Not as far as I know! I'm sure it never used to happen as I have watched the proper one before in the bedroom, but not recently. And it is a really good picture as well so it's not like it's a fluke just picking up a stray transmission. Strange!

You're picking up the Sudbury transmitter in Suffolk, comes in quite well in parts of East Kent, even if your aerial does not point in that direction

So the upstairs TV must be picking up Sudbury and the downstairs ones a different one?

Could try having a look in the 800s and see if there is an extra ITV and BBC since the London our Anglia and BBC have gone here and we have London news but I am not really bothered by this.

in other words, 2 sets of signals being picked up by the aerial and some of the equipment/tv's are scanning in the wrong version into the primary ch slots (eg,1 - 5).

I have had this happen, when Sandy Heath had DSO one of my sets put Sandy Heath before Beckley with Beckley appearing in the 800's. I have even had on one auto retune a mixture of Sandy, Beckley and Sutton Coldfield.

Some boxes do the full tune and then ask you which region you prefer- for instance the TVonics MDR-240: very handy for the areas where nore than one region has transmissions reaching your set-up.

Ah, the days when I could get three regions in South London. Anglia from Sudbury in the bedroom and TVS/Meridian in the living room from Hannington.

Thanks to wonderful DTT, I only get London now.

You might still be able to receive the other transmitters. if you tune them manually.
The only difference between ITV regions now is the news, and even that's not as different as it was.

Here in the Meridian East(13 and 27 June to go for completing DSO retunes ...) region , Ceefax page 608 holds the itv1 London variations and for some weeks now the body text has read, "No variations."

It's not quite true but as the Ceefax Editor has sussed, all of our neighbouring regions have DSO'd!

I can currently get fuzzy but borderline watchable pictures on most of the analogue channels from both Tunbridge Wells and Heathfield, but not a sausage from the new BBC-A mux. Both of those transmitters are using channel 52, but a manual tune gives zero signal strength, so it'll be just London for me from now on.

Have you considered that good planning for the high-powered DTT network, with better modelling of the network since the analogue network was designed and improvements in the transmission technology itself, may have been employed so that those in regions that may have received a pretty poor analogue service might receive a better DTT service? And that might be to the detriment of out-of-area reception, which isn't something that anyone could possibly (want to) plan for?

As part of my job I was doing a tv install in Corby a couple of months ago and the telly picked up BBC East, BBC East Midlands, and BBC East Yorkshire & Lincolnshire! Possibly the strangest combination on a standard Samsung telly.

That sounds reasonable for Corby. Reception is from Sandy Heath, Waltham and Belmont respectively.

Not Belmont according to the service map on the MB21 site:

Belmont is the only main transmitter broadcasting BBC East Yorks and Lincolnshire, so has to be it. Belmont can be picked up at selected locations beyond that map. Some people in Derby can, for instance. It's unreliable though...

These days if you live in Northants, Oxon, Bucks and Warks and live on top of a hill and have a large ariel I sure many folks could if they really wanted to pick up a selection of regions (and sub regions). In places in like Oxford and Northampton with a bit of effort I'm sure five could be achieved, maybe even six.

I'm sure a friend told me over in East Angila in the area between March and Ely no end of regions come in if you count sub regions.

The service area of Belmont on the MB21 is very interesting in the way that it shows Mansfield and much of North Notts as being covered by Belmont. Interestingly on the Waltham transmitter map on this site Mansfield and North Notts is not covered.

Many of us living in the Mansfield and North Notts know from experience that is true. However, try telling that to the BBC who insist on putting all of our local news on East Midlands Today from the Waltham transmitter. They include no Nottinghamshire news on Look North (Hull) from the Belmont transmitter and insist that we are not part of their area!

The only parts of Mansfield I can see that struggle to get Waltham are the town centre and low-lying parts immediately around there. Parts of Woodhouse would be tricky too but they rely on Emley Moor not Belmont anyway. There are certainly plenty of aerials facing Waltham on Chesterfield Road and out towards King's Mill and around Clipstone & Forest Town

My parents live near Ollerton and only have a Waltham aerial

A relay on the Four Seasons car park roof always seemed a good idea to fix things so Mansfield has total (local) coverage but I can't see it happening now sadly
