The 5 year Engagement

Went to see this today, wasnt expecting much. (In spite of it being a Judd Atapow film) MUCH better than expected.

THe title makes it sound like a girlie romcom, but actually, as with much Judd Atapow, this is very much told from the male perspective. Jason Segal wrote the script, and I think hes a very good writer. This film tells the tale of a long term relationship, but very much from the guy's angle. I really felt for the guy in this film and his struggles.

LOtsa laugh out loud moment.

Its a lot better than it sounds this film!

Not seen it but i've heard the same thing. It is from the Judd Apatow stable but it's not your typical chick flick rom-com which sadly is how the trailer sells the movie. It is from the guys POV and meant to be a very funny movie.

The trailer and even worse, the title "THE 5 YEAR ENGAGEMENT" (FFS!!) will be a massive turn off for blokes, ironic really as this ISNT a chick flick, its a film about a long term relationship and mens changing roles in modern society. That makes it sound worthy- its f****g funny!

This film is about as offensive a rom-com can get.

It lacks wit, warmth and charm.

What's really lacking though is the script.

put a bodily function and the state of the world economy together and that's what it amounts to:
Spoiler

Jason Segel comes across as a nice enough chap, but who the hell keeps telling him that he really does make a great romantic lead?! And poor old Emily Blunt. Comedy is clearly not her forte. Bless.

The director's previous films were Get Him To The Greek and Forgetting Sarah Marshall. His main achievement here is making a film worse than those two.

As producer Judd Apatow has proven so often in he's producing career, he's not adverse to putting his name on the lamest of projects.

Avoid.

Review here.

Went to see this film yesterday, it was the only ever film I have wanted to walk out of half way through (I didn't because my sister wouldn't let me as she'd paid £8 for my ticket!) I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it was soooo slow and just rubbish, thought I would like it because I love Jason Segel, but even he couldn't save it. Don't waste your money people!!

Just saw it tonight, loved every minute of it, a really great film. I'd recommend it to most people. Jason Segal and Emily Blunt are fantastic.
